Female riders... Doesnt seem to be too many around here on DTT. Just thinking, that maybe we should reach out to the female riding contingent, who also dig the cafe or bobber style. This isnt a wierdo "lets see more broads" kinda deal. Im not suggesting we turn this into a dating site. I just see a decent amount of female riders/builders online and think we should extend the olive branch. Kinda male-centric around these parts, and as a guy who grew up around all women (my dad and grandpa traveled a ton for work) there much smarter and more creative than us knuckledraggers... ;)

I hear ya Von. I've been trying to get my sister-in-law off the back of her boyfriends Harley and get her own wheels. But she's afraid of the whole mechanical cooridation thing (clutch, 2 brakes, shifter, and keeping balance at the same time). Maybe I'll talk her boyfriend into looking for a Hondamatic for her.

And my wife's cousin's girlfriend use to have a sport bike of some sorts that she had to get rid of ($ problems) and now she doesn't trust herself on 2 wheels! Guess at least I'm stuck with a bunch of "knuckledraggers"

Tried to convince the ex to get her own bike instead of making me put the double seat on every time I go for a ride... She bought the idea, wanted to build a cafe...

Crashed her training bike at the safety course and never wants to ride again. LoL

Mine rides, Started out as my idea to get a bike for transportation in Toronto, so I needed the license. She worked at Humber College so when a staff day for the course came up she got hers as well. Practically a 2 for 1 price we paid. I then bought her a bike that I figured she would ride.
Now after a summer of riding a 250 she's thinking about going bigger. ;)

women love three things puppies, southern comfort and Chris Isaacs' "Wicked Game"

Generally, women don't ride cafes or any other vintage bike because of the maintenance required to keep them running. With very few exceptions (like go!), girls are just not interested in working on bikes or anything mechanical. Plenty of women ride modern sportbikes and cruisers and the numbers are growing every year. Our local general bike forum: www.gtamotorcycle.com has many female members.

I know all about that maintaining.... or the lack off. I'm too good for her :p

i've tried to get female friends interested. they get all excited about the concept of working on a bike.. but once i give them a carb to clean, they're done. if it even gets THAT far :-\
i guess they admire shots of pin-ups "working" on bikes, and think it's gonna be like that; mostly looking pretty, nothing difficult that may require thought or a manual.

I guess that would be more of the norm....
Even a lot the girls I know dont post on forums, interest based or professional forums, generally speaking that is...

I do know that ButterflyMETH and LoveHertz both wrench on their own bikes... tearing apart carbs, doing engine swaps etc...etc... Its pretty cool to see ;D

My girl rides an old Honda scooter that I gave her. She had to go and buy 2 stroke oil and put gas in it so now she thinks shes a mechanic. Im slowly trying to teach her about the mechanics of how these things work, and she seems genuinely interested. Told me she thinks new sport bikes are "gay" and that she wants a vintage motorcycle some day. Ill just have to make sure I dont have much going on when she decides to make that move since Im sure Ill be the one working on it.

I have started looking into one of those 400A's for her though. Dont think she'd too easily get the hang of shifting a bike :-/

well why dont you start her off on a small 185 Exciter or something that she can beat up and not worry about.. when when shes all comfortable with the shifting thing, put her on a cb350 or cb360 cafe racer?

Theres a bitchin early 70s Yamaha 100cc street and trail on Pittsburgh Craigslist right now. Pretty cheap. That would be a great bike to start her on. Plenty of get up and go for city riding, and its set up for some mild off road so she can learn the fundamentals out in a field somewhere where she wont get hurt. And if she doesnt take to it, you have a cool old beater for runnin through the woods around here.

Funny Story--well to me:

So I give my wife my CL350 cafe racer, the white one. She wants to use it for her short commute, but she's smart enough to know she'll dump it a few times before she really gets the hang of it.

I built my daughter a beach cruiser peddle bike with a 66cc motor. Peddle the bike a bit, release the clutch and the engine fires right up. It goes about 35MPH, which is perfect for our neighborhood.

OK, so my wife gets really pissed up one night and decides to learn on the motorized beach cruiser. At around 20MPH, she hits a curb and flips over the handlebars, bruising the shit out of leg. But she's drunk, so she doesn't feel it.

On the ride home, she "sees some headlights," gets scared and hits the neighbors fence at a full 35MPH and gets flattened! Now I have to bend the forks back out.

She still wants to learn how to ride though...:)

I guess I'm lucky. Both my girls ride. The wife on her '68 cb350 and my daughter on the trike.

I brought home a 77 Kawasaki MC1. 90cc, 2 stroke. My (then) 10 year old daughter did most of the tear down, cleaning, painting, and helped a bunch with the re-assembly. She is still trying to learn as much as possible, and I think I'll find a 175 - 250 for her to rebuild. She wants to be able to have a bike to ride to school when she is old enough. Hopefully I'm starting her on the right path.
