Would this bike make a good fighter?

Been Around the Block
I just came across this bike on craigslist and was thinking about buying it and making it a fighter, is it a good price and a good canidate?

Although I've never liked the ninja 500's in factory trim, it sounds like the price is right and there is potential there... And beggars can't be choosers and all that. But the model year isn't mentioned in the ad, and that's worth looking into. Also an appointment with the owner would be in order to make sure that the bike is in the condition that he states it is. Also has it got a clear title? If not you should look into getting a title in your state/province as this can be very tricky and expensive in some areas, impossible in others. A good thing to do is hand him some money, push it off and ride it to make sure it goes through all the gears as the ad states. If he resists you taking a test ride, then maybe you should reconsider your purchase. Having said all of this, the only fighter I ever owned was a 96 katana 750 that I got dirt cheap, so take it with a grain of salt.

My thoughts exactly, I just didn't want to be the one to say it. :D You can't build a fighter out of a bike pumping out less than 50 hp.

Well I was trying to be nice and helpful... I surely didn't want to say "pussy-bike" out loud... oops

i beg to differ, 350ypvs fighters, 350lc fighters, rd400, old gs 550, cb550. old triumph twins.. the list goes on and on. its about the style, it can be small and light to make up for less power and still be a fighter. :)

You can . It's been done . But don't go crazy with it . Personalize a little and ride the balls off it .

The Ninja 250 and 500 twins are stone reliable and plenty fun. If a company takes a certain bike and builts it and don't change anything to it for say.....15-20 years it's gotta be good . And being around that long you know there's plenty of parts to work with .

"A streetfighter is a superbike that is customized by removing the fairing, and making other changes that result in an overall more aggressive look. "

I thought only men used the "It's not the size that matters, it's how you use it" stuff....Ta-hehe

Anyway, if you like it, buy it...

I agree that a fighter has to have the power. No raw speed; No point! Pass that one up, there are a lot of great deals on bikes out there right now, happy hunting!

In my opinion it must also be a Harley killer! In one way or another. I say roll up and smoke the shit out of the Harley and at the next light invite the LOSER to a beer at the Pub! He is most likely to desire the bike that beat him. That feels great!!!!!! ;D

Everer see a Two stroke MX 250 done up? They're usually about 50 hp and not too slow on the accelleration. There are also some riders doing up the small Zephyrs too. It seems the street fighters also emphasize handling too, otherwise they'd all be stripped tricked 1100s or bigger, none of those "sissy" 600s.

I don't know how many would agree wiht me but it's kind of like drag racing was at one time. It wasn't so much how quick and fast you were, but that you were playing with what you had, trying to improve. Same seems a bit true in street fighters that I've noted. So why not a 500? Especially when the road is technical enough to reward good handling over sheer power. That's the stuff where we play. Besides it's all fun. And I also know I'd have like 8 points on my license if I had serious horsepower... that's why the 550 - I get to run the nuts off it flying quite literally under the radar.

I find that really interesting, because back in the mid 70s we kind of felt that way about the SOHC CB750s when compared to the two stroke triples, RDs, and the Z1. Sluggish toads they were... even a lowly 400 triple could screw with them a bit.

Coolest thing I've seen in awhile was a Ninja 250(pre 08+) with a RD400 engine. Still had all the fairing and looked fairly stock except for the chambers and the fact covers said Yamaha on it and smell and the sound and being beat by a little ninja 250. lol. RD400's can be extremely nasty little bikes. Chambers, good port work and their fast for a little 400 twin. Not to mention the RD400 is most likely smaller then the Ninja's 250 twin.

Respect to the 'no valve-no cam' Ninja! ;D

Only thing that irks me about it is that, in the words of Marv of Sin City fame, it looks like an electric shaver. I can't deal with that modular, sculpted plastic thats shrouding what is actually a pretty neat engine. Oh well, I'm sure you wouldn't care about that once you're riding the thing!

On the fighter issue, I'm sticking with the creed. Its gotta have power, and its gotta be nimble. Be interesting to see what develops as things like the current crop of FireBlades and Ninjas age.

exactly what I was thinking. I think the kids are spoiled. I can't wait to get my little R5 on the road with my big ass on it and take down a much bigger bike from light to light!! Or at least make it a LOT closer than that rider thought it would be,
