This bike is gross. The builder completely missed the point. It looks like a fat guy cruiser dressing up as 'Cafe Lucy'.

Ya, I saw this pic and wondered the same thing....

A paintjob and new seat upholstery would do WONDERS for that first bike. Looks way too Lowrider-ish right now.

That builder is on this forum.

Red bike? It's a great looking bike...just needs some cleaning.

Cafe Lucy? Is there a build thread??? I'd like to know what was going through his head at each step.

Here's one of his posts about that bike. He hasn't been around in a while.

I like the first bike...

edit: Ok, thought about this and needed to add a little.

"It looks Mexican"? Last time I checked, flake was a lot more popular in the 70's than checkerboards, which alot of people around here seem to think 'make' the cafe look. Let's call a spade a spade-the bikes we build, with few exceptions, were built in the 70's. So, the 50's paint/style schemes that people run on their 70's era cafes seem alot more off-base. If I had a Datsun 280Z with whitewalls and scallops/flames/etc, people would laugh. So really, do some research ya'll. Tracy Hondas, Rickmans, and most glass bodied racers had some wild paint schemes.

hell man i like it!!!
look how much body work went into those tins... as well as the candy paint over the flake... just the paint work alone deserves respect... may not be all of you'r dig but never the less cafes in general are not for everyone... def my style of a cafe.. for some reason reminds me of roland sands and carpy doing a combo build... i dont knwo... but i like it! look at all the detail work in that sucker every bolt is polished, every pannel has work done to it, the gas cap is a relocate and dents and flow added to it (if that is a stock tank or aftermarket still a ton of work went into it) even the wires.. where are they! you see that he hid it all! great build i htink

Oh now doubt there's a lot of technical skill going on here. Just not my cup of tea.

Here's a Roland Sands built. I see what you're saying there...

I like the outer springs on the forks - presumably just decorative, where the gaitors would have gone. Make them look like Norton roadholders.

i like the lowrider paint needs some lace ....the oil tank is the best part! its more of a custom than a cafe.....mabee its just me but i get really tired of catalog v-twins customs
