Or start with a small portable tool box. To begin with you probably won't have too many tools, so a small carryable one will probably suffice for now. I operated that way for decades before I broke down and bought a tool cabinet.
When I lived in an apartment I used a Craftsman 3 drawer tool box and my socket set came in its own container, and that was enough.
Think small and portable - not garage sized and impractical.
I second the carry toolbox. I have enough tools in a large tool box, that can be carried, to work on my Jeep...and I live in a college dorm with 3 other people. A lot of decent tool sets will come in their own containers like teazer had mention, as well.
That's how I started as well.
Grabbed a big craftsman soft tool bag and filled it with tools.
These days my entire garage is packed with tools as I just keep on collecting them haha
I'm in college, and my bike stays at my brother's place 70 miles away, so I carry a tool bag that has a shoulder strap with me basically anytime I'm going there or anywhere else. It's heavy as shit, but has all the basics, and a few electrical items as well. It's saved me and a few of my friends many times.
