I'm browsing as usual and bike prices are out to lunch!

A CBR600 is going for $12,000!!! The Shadows are a little low quality at $10K, my Mom has one, I wouldn't like it but to top it off, they are a little small for my 6'3" frame.

Yamaha's VMax is $23,000!?, The V Star is $12K. No prices on the FZ8 (Looks like sex) but I wonder where it will be?

BMW's F800 is about $10,000 (not bad I guess, two less than the Honda 600) The K1200 is $15,000 and the R1200RT is about $20,000.

Triumphs are what they are and Nortons are out of my league but WOW!

Harley Davidson's 2011 VRSC is $16k, average bike price/ a little low even for what you would expect! The only one that interests me/ fits well. The Wide Glide looks good to me with the rake and also at 16. The XR1200K is almost as much at $13,000!

Pending bills and wedding, I may be looking at a new V rod next year but the more I look at it the Wide Glide is nice too.

Is it just me of is Harley trying to keep their prices down in this "recession" (you wouldn't know it where I live) of everyone else jacking theyrs up?

or you just buy a used scrappy piece of junk get it running and have a unique bike for a couple hundred bucks

yeah...used Triumph will run you about 4k with some decent mods. A used CBR shouldn't cost more then 3 or 4k tops.

Maybe I have four old bikes, two old trucks, two old cars and I want one brand new motorcycle for once where its not all rusty, seized, dirty, oiley, broken, shorted out, dumped, scratched, torn, abused and an everlasting project.

Everlasting...? Naaaa I've finished and sold 6 this yr. And got a good jump on next yr. So far there are 3 in the works.

I understand this, though...

The VRSC's are really nice bikes, and can be built up pretty easily, too. I hear you on the prices as well. I was shopping Victory's earlier this year, and ended up with HD because the price was pretty much the same here, and the HD dealer is better.

I look at it the same as buying a new cage where even $25,000 doesn't get much. Don't be the the guy who buy's the new one and sees it depreciate right after he drives it off the lot. I'd get a low milage one that's only 2 or 3 years old for half the price (or less). Let the first guy take the big hit.

In Canada an 06 is still going for $12,000. Holds theyre value a little longer in then most other bikes it seems. I remember stopping at a dealer between Wichita and Salina seeing a V Rod go for around $7,000 had me scratching my head.

a new 600 for $12000 and they are running lap times that would have made them qualify for a motogp race from 12-14 years ago.........Sign me up!!! I've been selling bikes for over 10 years, and most bikes haven't really gone up in price that much (in Canada, anyways) during that time. A new 2001 ZX6r was only $1000 less than a 2011 (retail), but the last 2011 that I sold went for $300 less than retail for the 2001.

I've ridden the V rod and wide glide.. I liked the wide gide.. didnt love it.. but the whole time I was on the V rod my mind was saying "nottaharley... nottaharley". To me it's just not the same. The sound, the feel...

but wheres the fun in that ;] but in all reality I understand wanting a bike thats reliable. like my car, I love it but sometimes I just want to go out and buy a new VW golf TDI

I looked at HDs and there are some nice bikes. and there are alot of others out there that are nice and pricey. i went with a victory mostly because its diff then a HD. when i did some looking found this one in Nov 09 and it was a NOS hammer with 6 miles on it . the dealer throw in a nicer seat ( and i got the stock one seat ) with the pipes i wanted. got it for half the price of a new one that looked just like it only diff color ! there out there....

You should just import a 2-3 year old bike out of the states, the cost is almost nothing and you could save a pile of cash. Just go to www.riv.ca and the instructions are there, Get the paperwork in order, go get it, take it to CT and get the french stickers, done. My dad did it with a brand new lexus a few years ago and save 14K over the best deal he could get in Canada at the time.

VRODS arent Harleys, theyre Porsches. ;) New shit costs. Name of the game. New shit also comes with warantees, dealer support (unless your dealers an asshole), almost 0 reliability issues, top of the line safety engineering, and can generally (especially in the HD scenario) be resold for a nice hunk of coin. Anyone can go to the dance, but if you wanna fuck the prom queen it'll cost ya...
