Therapy is expensive. Riding is cheap. You decide.
Ok, so I was sitting here watching TV, and the wife looks over at me and says “Are Yamaha’s good bikes?” Cue my interest! Guy was selling a complete 82 XJ750 Seca 3 miles away. Price was 300 OBO, so I went and took a look. First thing I noticed, no battery. Ok, so he hooked it up to his TL1000 via jumpers so I could see that it had power. Check. Next, starter won’t engage the engine, which he told me about ahead of time, so OK, check. Third, engine turns via rear wheel, and turns smoothly awhile building compression. Good.
So, all in all, I picked up a rough but complete 82 Seca, minus battery, for 250$ and he even delivered it to my door, with the title. Obviously it has issues, the wiring being the very first, then addressing the starter issue. (These bikes have starter clutches that require splitting the cases to replace...) let’s hope I don’t have to do that.
The deal I made with the wife was I would get this bike, and get rid of the TX project that’s been stalled for 2 years due to lack of funds, lack of parts available, and just lack of time for a complete crank out rebuild. So that’ll be up on CL pretty soon. In the meantime, here’s a few pics so you mutts can see her in all her beaten-with-an-ugly-stick glory. Also, yes, that’s a pair of zip ties and a brass coat hanger holding the incorrect coils in place...
