XL883TT Build

Saki

Been Around the Block
It would help if I post in the right place first lol Anyhow,I don't have much build content yet as I've got a couple of more pieces I need to get, but have an idea for the build and already nabbed some of the key pieces for the build. I thought about upgrading to the 1200cc cylinders but for now decided the bike stays stock, it may grow later.

I'm starting with this:

I've been planning this build for a while, I'm basing it off the old KR and XR race bikes.

Yep, a full fairing race Harley. As you can tell I wont have to change the bike drastically to get the desired look. Though, I know its gonna handle like a wheelbarrow full of potatoes.

I was planning to order my fairing from Aerotech directly, but Norm from http://www.midmomc.com/index.php posted this on ebay with the mounts premade:

Have my resets in and holy cow does Chainsikle not play around on the builds.

These bad boys came with some weight, did not expect them to be built so overly solid.

What is currently holding up the build is picking the exhaust, so many options, Ive already got some clip ons on the way. I'll update once I get the exhaust selected and ordered.

Well a step closer of sorts.

ordered handlebars and exhaust.

the exhaust is patriot 2 into 1, it was cheap and has a built in butterfly valve to allow me to quiet down the bike at will. Also some clubman handlebars meant for a sportster.

Right now looking at paint, thinking metal flake unsure of on color(s) yet.

My first real bike was a XL883 that I did a 2-1 exhaust and drag bars and rode the crap out of it for four years when I lived in Hawaii. So signed up for sure.

Well looks like I need to add headlight to the list, have a 55/75watt bulb with no relay. Fortunately no fire, just melted connector, thats on the list to change/fix.

My first bike was a 02 sporty XL1200 with the now-discontinued forward controls, Arlen Ness low rise bars and a solo seat. I'll be checking this build for sure.

Are you doing any intake mods? I had the Screamin' Eagle breather kit on mine. I don't know if it added any power, PO put it on, but it did make that intake sound good.

I'm in, I'm looking forward to see where this is gonna go.

I really liked that link, with all those trikes.

the intake is the screaming eagle kit, just don't have the plate for it. I don't know about power but it for sure opened up air flow, it was like a 3x2" hole stock.

One difference I did notice was I went from 45-50mpg to 55-60 on the highway.

exhaust and handle bars arrived today.

Now comes the issue of picking paint, I like metal flake but man that is one difficult spray job.

Pic of the pipes.

Had a similar pipe to that. Smaller diameter where it turns to one pipe but great sound and performance.

Hammer performance had nothing but good things to say about it, apparently for 300 bucks it delivers a lot of of power. a 24hp gain over stock on on of the 1200 conversions http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/showthread.php?t=1745266

Yeah I can't remember what brand my pipe was it was over 5 years ago but it made a difference on my stock XL883 in sound, performance, and aesthetics.

parts came off easier than expected.

The pipe doesnt use a cable but a rod to control the valve for the baffle

I disliked the chrome heatshields, pulled them off.

It doesn't look too bad, just sizing it up and seeing what I need to do bracket wise since this was meant for a rubbermount engine and I'm a ridged mount. Looks good overall for 300 bucks.

This horse got curious to what was going on with the iron horse.

Stupid forward controls are part of the mounts for the engine, decided to take the IDGAF approach to put my exhaust on.

Gonna have to get some new pegs too.

having to make space for the brake but should be too much trouble.

The rearsets put your ass on the rear of the seat and on the rear fender, thinking I may want to nab a pad so I don't break my spine with the first pothole. Gotta get a few things tomorrow, hoping to have it doing a shake down run tomorrow and ride a little with no fairing. The fairing comes on when I get ready to paint.

I'm in. I like HD builds. I have built a cafe sportster in my head for awhile now.
