xr100 &rt1: his and hers builds

This is my 2003 Xr100 that i'm cutting down to build a tracker. Does anyone have recommendations for the tank? There is only about 12 inches before the front of the seat pan.
The last on shows it beside an Xr70 to show how tiny this thing actually is.

Well changed plans for this one. Will still be going tracker with the xr. Girlfriend decided to take it over ::) So I get our bigger bike. Was a basket case 1971 Yamaha rt1 360 2 stroke that now gets an xr500 engine and kz forks. Second bike is on page 2 .Both builds are going on slowly as I work part time and am funding both. Any opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Re: 2003 XR100

I was actually in the process of building an XR80 tracker myself and found an ATC70 tank fits over the frame perfectly. It would need to be spaced accordingly so it doesn't rest on the motor though.

Re: 2003 XR100

This is the tank off of a SL125. I think it fits perfectly for the style I'm going for.

Re: 2003 XR100

This has taken a spot on the back burners lately. Put the motor in last week or so and rode it. Has a 120 big bore on it. I am buying an xr500 engine that I am considering putting in it. Though i am kind of scared of how it woould work in such a small frame. Would be a hell of a ride ;D I have an 1971 rt1 frame that it could go in too. Which would be best? Tiny rolling chassis or bigger frame? Rt1 is just the frame.

Re: 2003 XR100

tank looks good. big engine/small frame is always better than anything else.

Re: 2003 XR100

That is what i was thinking. How would i go about bigger brakes oncthis? I plan on swapping the front forks and upgrading to a disk to help slow down. Do you think the back brake would be worth the hassle to change? Maybe swap the swingarm to get a wider tire too.

Re: 2003 XR100

Got the xr500 engine on the way. Anyone have any buils with these? I would like to know how these motors run and pull. I know these xr are reliable but how is the power?
Also is it possible to weld to the aluminum fork tubes? Thought maybe i could get the caliper mounts welded on and mounts for a fork brace to tighten up the front end. I would like to just swap the front hub with a disc brake hub rather than retrofit a whole new front end.

Re: 2003 XR100

To answer your rear-brake question:
My dad rides a bmw1100 RT on a daily basis, more than 100km a day. He already needed to repair his rearbrake twice. it was rusted shut due to not using it haha - then again, it has ABS, yours don't.

I wont bother riding ANY bike with no rear brake. Front stoppers are golden though since Nike, Emerica and DC don't make good braking pads ;)

and for your fork swap: use the forks and rim/wheel with disc mounts. So much easier than conversions.
Ofcourse it's possible to weld fork legs but i shouldn't do it. Welding creates heat and other unwanted stress shizzle you don't want on the only thing between a bigsmile and no teeth at all. just machine a bracket and attach it to bolt-holes available if you want to use your old forks. I bet there's a bearing kit for old frame/disc fork so i would go with that. period as it's the best and safest solution.

Re: 2003 XR100

Back in dirt bike form waiting for the big motor. I also have some kz440 forks coming too. Is the a way to use stock parts to put dual disks with that front end? It has caliper mounts on both tubes.

Re: 2003 XR100

Got the motor in today. Tore down the bike and set the motors side by side doesn't look like it will fit. My girlfriend decided it will be hers now haha.

Re: 2003 XR100

This combo may work a little better1971yamaha 360 frame. Super light weight and more room than the little xr. Tomorrow only one class so we'll have plenty of time to figure out mounting it in there.

Re: 2003 XR100

Looks cool - not sure which bike I should be following!

Got the kz440 front forks in this week. Triple trees are at the machine shop getting the rt1 stem pressed in. Tore into the top end of the 500 yesterday. The cam journals are worn pretty bad. What is the best fix for this?
Anyone know of any camshafts that will swap with a1980 xr500?

The head is the only thing that needs work really. It shifts through all the gears and cylinger sleeve is smooth. It had five head gaskets any use for this?

Got some mounting tabs in today and set about trying to mount the engine. The only problem is the engine sets off to the left about 3/4 off center. It has to sit this way so the chain wont rub on the frame when i get that all mounted. How much will this affect the handling of the bike
