XS 650 Electrical Woes

I've spent countless hours staring into the abyss that is the electrical debacle on my '80 XS650. I'm so lost. I have the manual. I've traced my lines. I want to throw up. GIVE ME WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT AND WISDOM.

Remove your wiring completely and make a simple harness. Start with just the starter and a button. Power to the coils, starter, add gas. That's bout it. Build up the wiring from there as far as everything else you want. Take each bit one by one and it's not to bad.

What he said. If you're having charging issues, I would recommend scraping the cash together and picking up a pma kit and a pamco ignition. It's not cheap but makes the wiring super simple and eliminates all the worn out stock charging components.

What about this http://www.mikesxs.net/products-78.html#products just buy it brand new and be done with it.

if its not charging - I'd have a fiver on the fact the resistance of the field winding has dropped from 5 to 3 ohms. Rotor rewind needed.

Might be Brushes on alternator, or brush holder. A little exploratory surgery is in order...

MikesXS has the rotors too...I am a little jealous. You XS650 guys have a really nice vendor there. I buy from him on parts that fit my honda, but Mike has a very nice stock of important parts at competitive prices for you guys.
