XS 650 Question

Nate

Been Around the Block
I just started digging into a 2nd xs 650 that I acquired a few months ago for the price of getting out of the PO's lawn. Bike runs well but here's the issue. Has the "ghost rev" thing going on. I went through this with my main xs and it was alleviated by servicing the advance unit and shaft. I did the same on this bike to no avail. Still has a ghost rev although the timing and advance is all in check. This bike has the stock cv carbs, my main bike has dellortos so I can't really compare. Is it possible this is a carb issue with the cvs? I'm thinking maybe air is getting through and building velocity, causing the slides to rise, mimicking me opening the throttle. It will do it at a red light or it can also act like cruise control. Any thoughts are appreciated. ~~Nate

Carbs can cause this easily - start by cleaning jets etc. and then synching the carbs.

I'd be interested in hearing/seeing more about the dellortos you have on the other XS650. At some point I'll be upgrading from the stock units on mine and haven't decided on which way to go.

they're 32s and basically the same as mikunis, it's just that a relative had them and I got them cheap from him or I wouldv'e just gone with the mikuni 32s...it's like a different bike once you get rid of the stock carbs

Nate .... Do your self a favor and throw the CV's as far as away as you can get them, they tend to havg up and go out of sync. Check the CV boots for any holes or tears. :p

Find a set of Mikuni's or another set of Dellorto's. The Dellorto's you have are the bomb for the XS, they have the accelorater pump ... huge difference.

It was the advance unit, I had to tweak the springs a little more to really get the weights to snap back....took it out for ten miles today with the plate from my other bike on it and it was good, a little popping from the right carb but seems good.....I'm giving the bike to a buddy of mine, he wants a cafe racer, I hinted that I'll be seliing my bike this fall but no bite from him....thanks for the suggestions
