Don't know much about the XS400's, but is there an 18" wheel on another year XS400? If so, I'd imagine that to be a fairly straightforward fit.
Worst case scenario (using a different wheel), you'll be up for different size bearings, new spacers and a bit of tinkering to get your sprockets aligned.
