XS400 Stem In R6 Triple

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone of you had grafted a XS400 Stem into R6 triple or any other USD triple? I have a xs400 I was wanting to update with some inverted forks. I know the aprrilla rs125 front end bolts up but they are hard to come by in the states. I see them on ebay in the UK and will go that route if need be but I was hoping for a USA alternative.

I know the R6 triples are aluminum and the stem of the R6 has to be pressed out? I have a lathe and could machine the Xs400 stem if need be? I would rather weld the Xs400 stem in the triple but because of the aluminum I don't think that is possible???

Just brainstorming, Please share your thoughts especially if I am way off

thanks

Chris

I think that you can convert quite a few front ends to fit if you already have the original triples. You cut the welds that hold the stem on the old triple and weld it onto the triple you want to put in then you can use the same bearings.

Thats what I've gathered from limited research so take with a grain of salt

Hi Finn

The problem with welding it is the R6 triple is aluminum and the xs400 is steel. I don't think you can weld steel to alum without some special equipment. There may be an R6 year that is steel that I am not aware of?

Oh, didn't know that

If it can be done might be worth it to take it to a welder just for that one piece

Cannot be done by welding.

You can modify the R6 stem or machine a new one or find bearings the work with that R6 stem and your frame - check the ALL Balls site for lists.

Thanks guys for the replies,

I was going to do the all balls conversion but was unsure of the stem height if the r6. I didn't know if was to high or to short? Anyone have one handy they could measure?

I also found this

"Also, as I stated in my thread, the CBR954 triple should work (and is available in the US) and that would give you the flexibility to work with Gixxer/CBR/Ninja/R6 fork tubes (50mm tubes, that is) and parts. I'm using Gixxer 600 tubes, CBR954 triples, Ninja 636 calipers and clipons, and FZR600 rotors (more than likely) on the stock 18" mag. I'm just taking my time amassing parts."

Anyone verify this regarding the CBR854 Triple?

Thank you all for the help

Chris

70/72 ds7 r5, 73/75 rd250/350,or 76/79 rd400 should all be the same as 34mm xs400 for that matter most the dt and tt xt line should also be the same but dont take my word untill you check bikebandit to be sure
