XS500E Brat winter project

Jumping on the seat statically will no where near replicate hitting a hole in the road at speed.
Removing the springs from the shocks, and refitting the to see full travel would be the best way.
Or removing one of the shocks & setting the one still on the bike, to its softest setting, then use a ratchet strap to pull it down as far it will go.

Thanks bro, guess what I'm doing tonight now lol

im pretty sure you can remove a shock and spring from one side and then sit on the bike with just the one spring still connected which should give you a pretty good idea also

not a good idea
doing that puts a twisting load on the swinger, that it is not designed for,i am not sure it would cause damage maybe if you really bottomed it hard....
but common sense needs to prevail when working on these things, and if a guy is too lazy to pull the springs off the shocks when doing a rear frame mod then the ratchet strap check is a good one
