Been Around the Block
Hi guys,

i have a XS650 that im doing a Cafe on and am in need of some rearsets, i think the loaded gun kit would probably be best but doesnt anyone know if these are stocked anywhere in Australia? or even a different kit?

What year is the XS? Loaded Gun will I'm sure send off a kit in the post to Australia no problem. Email them and tell Kevin that Tim says hi and we missed him in October.

The earliest XS frames (1971-73) were slightly different and the mounting brackets won't fit properly. But chances are yours is a later model.

Hi Tim, it's a 73 tx650, I was told they were pretty much the same, what do you suggest?

Get some pics of your bike up, including some detail shots of the frame in the footpeg area. I can probably tell if it's the old or new frame.

I built a bike on a 1972 frame, and found out the hard way. I made custom rearset brackets and used Tarozzi levers/pegs.

Here's my build thread - http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=448 (topic #448 out of 64,000+ now!)

This post has some close ups of my rearsets.

The issue is the spacing of the footpeg mounting bolts / swingarm bolt. They're slightly different on the earlier frames.

Also, the steering tube on the early frames is shorter than the later ones. You can't bolt up the later years' 35mm triple tree to the early frame without modifications. I learned that the hard way too.

I got my universal pegs and levers for my GS550 from here, and Kris, the owner is great to work with. He makes a couple kit options specifically for the XS650. I highly recommend them.

Keep trying. As of a couple years ago it was a side business for him. I hope he is still in business. I wish I still had his phone #, but it looks like I didn't save it.

You can try Monstercraftsman.com . They have some Loaded Gun sets. I think I originally bought my Universal Old School ones through them, but I had to have some modifications done, and worked directly with Kris to change my set up. Looking at the Mastercraftsman site, several of the Old School products cannot be selected, so maybe he closed up shop.

Problem is none of these mounting brackets are going to fit your bike, if it's the same as mine.

Measure the distance between your mounting bolts and the swingarm bolt - all 'on center' as a triangle. I'll compare to mine.

BTW - if you want Loaded Gun Customs parts, buy direct from Kevin at LGC. He's a good friend and makes some awesome stuff.

I actually have a set of his universal levers I could sell for 1/2 the price of the new ones. You'd just need to make up some mounting brackets. Let me know.

Danny, think I just read this request on SCR too didn't it? If you're in Sydney I recommend buying those rearsets off Tim and getting DNA Custom cycles to CNC up some brackets for them. Darren (DNA) does great work for SCRers and I can vouch for the quality of his work as he's done loads on my build.

Engine mounts:

Ducati fender mount and caliper carriers:
