Yamaha SR250 Brat

Hey mate, I wish I saw your post before I paid 100 bucks for my charger, anyway, such is life!
I just charged the battery while I did a bit of painting on the tank, and it still wont start. I'm going to swap out the cdi for the original and see if that helps.
If you have a pdf of the manual that would be so helpfull. The one I have is missing some pages and they just happen to be the ones with the electrical diagram. I'll PM you my email if you can find it send it through!!
Cheers

Here is what I did to the tank while the battery was charging. A pin stripe and the bikes name. Dirty Diana.

ITS RUNNING!!!!!!!
Happiest day of my fucking life!!!
I swapped the new cdi for the original and it started first go!!

Congrats!! Have been following along from the beginning and really digging what you've done with the build!

Don't know what it's like over there but in Perth you just need to find a decent pits inspector, I've heard of loads of people getting passed so long as the job looks neat and professional. I've already cut my beat up so I'd better hope they weren't lying! ;)

Thanks mate.

I'm thinking I will get it over the pits and then cut down the guards. To get it in my name and registered I have to get a road worthy cert from a mechanic and then take it into VIC roads shop front for an inspection, so I really don't want to give them an excuse to knock me back.
As it turns out my front forks have WAY to much compression when I break, so it looks like I will have to get the front fork seals done. That is a job I might leave to a mechanic haha.

I am going to finish detailing the tank today, I'll up picks later

Hey mate. Nice work with the build. I really want to Do one of my own but don't have the space. Have been looking for a bike to buy. Interested in selling?

Got my fork seals done at the mechanic. I painted the rims, fitted new brake shoes, brake shoe cover, new air filter, new rear brake switch, and swapped from clip on handle bars to a flat bar.
I also fitted a switch to turn of the hi and low beam and wired the park to stay on all the time. When I turned the bike on to test the lights were not working. I thought it was to do with the wiring I had just done so I spent hours going over every thing. Turned out it was the left handle bar controls were faulty. I pulled it apart and found a copper plate with point that had warn down and were not making contact. I got my McIver on and fixed it with soldier, its not a long term solution but it will get me through.

After all this I still didn't pass road worthy inspection. !!!

But the mechanics were really cool and gave me a list of things to fix so it passes.
-oil leak on clutch cover
-relocate the kill switch to the handle bars
-extend the rear fender and fit a reflector
-fit a braket to hold the speedo and front break cable to the front fender
-front break sticking
-new swing arm bushes.
- fit a stock exhaust as mine is too loud, this will kill me as I love the way it sounds.

Does any one know were I can get a stock exhaust in Melbourne?

More pics this weekend

Pat

I might be. I really want to finish it first though, for my own sanity. What bike are you looking to get? PM me if your still looking

Pockets, do you have a number plate for your bike? If you do put it on when you go to the mechanics. It'll probably get you past the 45 degree of the wheel thing they look for. Might not be verticle though and they probably want that too.

Or put on the stock rear light, that'll should get you over the line if the rear hasn't been cut. I suspect it has.

How did you find the ride with the flat bars compared to the clip ons? I did the same change a couple of months ago. So much easier to ride.

Hey mate, I don't have a licence plate yet as it's unregistered and was so when I bought it. The mechanics suggested a $12 bit of black perspecs they sell to attached to ye rear fender to get me through inspection.
As far as the flat bar goes, I think it's way better to ride than the clip ons. Although I like the idea of clip ons, I didn't feel safe and they also made that front area of the bike looke too busy in comparison to the rest. However I think that had a lot to do with the cables and electrical, I plan to make a cover to hide all that any way. When I re wired the bike I left a little extra length on the cables going to the bars with the idea I was eventually go to a flat bar, so it didn't take long to swap over at all.
Over all I think it looks just as good but feels a lot better to ride.

Hey all,
I really want to de tab my frame this weekend, something I def should have done when I had the bike fully stripped and was about to paint the frame.... But such is life.
I was just wondering if I can remove this bar without affecting the integrity of the frame.
Any advice would be great.

De tabbed the frame last night. Dropped the motor out and back end off to get in to the welds but the frame already looks heaps cleaner.
Next I'm going to wire in a kill switch on the handle bars to pass rego, and make a new mounting plate for the LED's. Now I'm rocking a flat bar it's hard to see them.

I made a new bracket for the light switch and the LED's, I had to get rid of the wood one I made up when I had clip on as I raised the speedo and it no longer was functional.

I also made up a front cover to hide all the electrical. Before and after pictures below.

I removed mine. Was planing on putting another one lower but haven't gotten around to it yet. Crd and other sr250 builds I've seen have also done the same without replacing it. Mines not on the road at the moment so I'm not sure how it feels

Hey mate, I ended up leaving it on. I figured you can barely see it any way. Let me know if you notice the difference when you ride though as I may just remove it in the future.
Cheers
