Hey Jonny.

The engine isn't apart so any of the internals I'm not accessing, but the external stuff is all yours. Where about are you in the muskokas? I'll be up in Awenda provincial park for the weekend of July 8 if you wanted to buy the whole motor. It was running when I took it out, but I think the rings are blown cause it was puking oil out the breather.

Otherwise I'll mail ya the bolts. As far as the keys, you can buy stock keyways and cut to shape.

how much are you looking to get for the engine? i am in Burks Falls but my GF is in T.O. so i am down there a fair bit.

Well, its been a long 9 years since i dismantled this thing and tried to customize it. Then life got in the way...
Decided its been long enough and started working on it again. Right now I'm using my spare frame to return it to stock so i can commute on it while I source materials and parts to finish my Cafe conversion.

Here is my rusty pile of parts as it sat 2 weeks ago:

Got the good motor in the spare frame:

Mounted the front wheel, decided to grease the rear swingarm bushings before installing it. They were completely dry. Used some questionably aged boat trailer grease, it was all i had:

Here she is on her own two wheels, been 9 years too long...:

you can see how far i got on the original frame in that last picture. gonna toss the motor and suspension from my parts bike into it and start mocking up for the cafe version. I'll keep posting updates as i go along.

Things to do:

• Check wheel bearings and brakes front and rear
• reattach wiring through out bike
• new battery
• oil change and valve check
• reconnect/replace cables
• rebuild forks
• new chain and sprockets
• patch and line the tank
• new steering bearings
• new inner tubes and tires

Nine, ten year-old tires need replaced, too. Rubber is hard, slick, and deteriorated.

Good point. Tires are cheap. Might as well change them out too.

Started on the carb and proceded to break it during disassembly... good thing I have a spare! I stripped down the spare and dunked it for a bit. Gonna reassemble and reinstall in a bit.

Those post break a lot. There are repair kits out there for some of them. Good thing you have a spare though as that's easier.

Its been a bit since I posted an update. I managed to patch the tank with fiberglass, paint it, and line it. It turned out on the ugly side of functional, but i can live with that. I learned quite a bit about working with epoxy and bondo so my next adventure should turn out better. The bike is now fully assembled and is rideable, just gotta pay the registration fees and get a new plate and i'll be mobile again. Once i got it running, I managed to burn my leg on the exhaust.... again.... Every time i get this thing on the road and driveable, i get burned... its like a tradition or something.....


Here's the fiberglass repair. i learned its a bad idea to cut out the damaged area, it could have been used as structural support... But I guess i thought it was a good idea 10 years ago.....

Here is the bondo and paint. turned out alright, I spread it too thick and it set before i could scrape more off... it is what it is. paint looks alright for not sanding it down.

Bought some nice little OEM look mini signals. they work great with an electronic signal flasher even though they aren't LED.

Here it is ready to ride. Still needs some attention and parts here and there, but its ready to go as soon as i get a plate...

So I've got a front end off a 1970 honda sl350. The forks are 33mm and it has a double leading shoe drum brake that just so happens to have the same axle size. so I put it on my spare SR250 front end. It fits almost perfectly. It needs some work to make it perfect but its a really close fit. It has a 19 inch rim on the hub, so I'll probably relace it to my spare 18 inch SR250 rim. It looks like the hub diameter is the same as the larger side of the SR250 rim, so between my two front wheels, I might be able to lace it up. then i'll lace the 2nd rim to the rear hub and have 18's all around. I'm also curious if the fork springs will fit in the SR250's 32mm forks and be an upgrade....

after fighting for weeks i finally got one of the fork caps off of my spares. So rusty.... I had to drill a hole and pound a torx bit into it and twist it out. but my luck is better with the honda parts, the sl350 springs are really close in size, but have thicker and more closely wound springs. Those are going to go into the spare forks as soon as i can separate the tubes and legs.... need to replace all the seals and clips.

still haven't got my bike registered yet though, not enough funds... but I'm getting a promotion at work so maybe next month I'll be riding it finally.
