Yamaha XS850 - Simplified Wiring Questions

Hello all,

I am working on a 1980 XS850 cafe project. I am going with a custom mono-shock setup and small cafe seat on it. That being said, space for electrical is going to be limited.

I would like to eliminate as much electrical as possible, but I am not sure what or how to eliminate exactly.

1) The largest box on the bike is the ignitor unit. Is there any way to eliminate this, or replace it with a smaller options from another bike?

2) If I don't run signals I will be able to eliminate the flasher unit and and flasher canceling unit no problem right?

3) Any way to eliminate the reserve lighting unit? I think this is the one that mounts under the tank, so it's not a big deal.

4) Rectifier/regulator?

5) Anybody have sources for small 4 fuse box options?

6) I am going to run this battery so that I can still use the electric start: http://www.batterystuff.com/powersports-batteries/sYTZ14S.html

Here is the wiring diagram I am using as reference: http://www.yamaha-triples.org/library/tech-bulletins/xs850g/850g_wi...

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I used ATM-Mini blade fuses on my RD. They are fairly compact compared other options. You should also consider a LiPo or Li-Ion battery if you really want to save space.

I've just finished getting an xs850 on the road. I did the reserve lighting unit rlu removal bypass per xs11 and yamaha triple.org forums.

Actually added mass and pieces but used an 80s dodge voltage regulator after getting a new dead in box reg/rect. Still Using the original rectifier.

Also went with a 6 atc holder from eBay.

Lots of information around, but it takes some searching and thinking.
