Yet another CB400T Hawk build

Thunderchild

Rumble, rumble.
A few months ago I got a great bargain on CL for a 1978 CB400T1. I was looking for a project bike, and for a few hundred dollars I snapped it up.

I won't bore you with a detailed build or anything. This is more a pictorial post.

It's been a fun build so far. Taking my time on it, and just playing.

I took the plunge the other day and cut the frame. Fabbing up a solo seat that will eventually have a leather cover.

I call it the Disco Queen because my son dubbed it that as soon as he saw it.

I've got a little more done on it, but still need to upload some pictures...

OK, here's the latest pictures... I still need to do a little work to get it street legal in Texas. Plate light and a few other details...

I think I'll leave it bare metal for now until I get inspired to clean up the motor and give it a decent paint job.

Thank you!

I changed out the stock sprockets today. I went one tooth larger on the front, and down three on the rear. Run a bit smoother at 50+ now. The stock gearing really was buzzy at higher speeds.

We're your UNi Air filters from eBay? This is exactly what I'm doing...I even have the same bars...been trying to salvage the tank for a long ass time now.

I'm not sure of the actual dimension sizes on the filters. I ordered them originally for my 1968 CL450, from Dennis Kirk. Decided to go a different way on the CL so I just used them on the CB400. They fit just fine.

If you're trying to order by size alone and not bike model... I really don't know. I'd have to pop one off and measure it...

Cool deal on you bike. I like the look of mine. What's up with your tank?

Post some pictures when you can!

OK... just looked at the 'spec' page on the CL450 filters from DK. Here's what it said...

Flange I.D. 2 1/16 in.
Length 6 in.
Type Air Filter Element
Units Pair
Weight 0.62 lbs

Hope that helps!
