Yet another new one...

hey everyone

I just bought a 1976 cb 750 4-cylinder, my first bike

Not gonna lie, it's a turd right now...I mean somebody welded an old 4 wheeler muffler onto it and added the sweet flame stickers to draw your eyes away from the bondo/epoxy/un-identified gooey crap sealing the cracked tank seam.

BUT I really want to turn it into a cafe bike. I found the tank/seat combo I want along with some other parts but its a lot of the little stuff I don't know about like different foot controls or guages....the little details that make it stand out more.

thanks for checkin this out and feel free to put up any tips or links to get me started

Try going to www.CB750cafe.com You can get some nice ideas from checking out Carpys builds. I have mailed him few times with questions, about his parts fitting my 79 CB650,and he got back to me pretty quick. As far as your exhaust problems.....I have played with many a bike. (mostly mine)...if you have a solid section of header as little as 4" coming off the head...cut the rest of the junk off. You can fashion an exhaust from a myriad of exhaust systems from other bikes......cut up & weld it up, and cover it all with a good quality header wrap tape. I was going to buy a cafe seat pan, which there are many out there...but I took my seat pan and made my own. If you come across an extra stock seat grab it...trashed or not, you just want the "pan". Building your own seat complete with cover/lighting/wiring gives you a certain satisfaction of "doing the build", as most of the bike you will not be building. Dennis Kirk has been my lighting source (turn signals/brake lights etc).I have seen some nice seat work from scratch from fellow members here enuff to push anyone to try it. Look to your fellow members.....they are here for more than just shooting the shit!! I have learned one thing since getting into "Cafe's".......I have owned a number of bikes.....all styles...all new. You pick the bike or series of bike ie: Honda CB's, and learn that bitch inside out.......and always be searching for something for that ride, and start collecting parts...a little bit here , a little there. Our bikes are getting older...more scarce. if something goes down on your ride, you want a parts box in your garage to rummage through, or a good source in your back pocket to call on a moments notice. I just sold my last newer bike. I was never really "happy" with anything till now. I get more satisfaction from a cafe build and it's lifestyle and history than anything I have come across...and I even was in a Harley club, along with a few clubs from the land of the rising sun.....flash and chrome is not where it's at. Get another beater if you come across one...build one...ride one!! Good luck , and have a fukkin blast!!!!!!!!!

Thanks dude

I dont know if you've ever checked it but benjiescaferacer.com is where I found the seat/tank combo I want. You'll notice the price pretty quick, but I can't get over how the one combo looks so I'm just gonna save some cash and do it the way I want it the first time, but I'll definitely keep all the old parts, the tanks in decent shape and the seat just needs to be re-covered

Maybe another 750 could come along later, but this one is getting completely ripped apart, the motor is getting all new seals/gaskets, re-wired, blasted, painted. it's gonna take me til probably next summer but I wanna do it all up the right way...plus I gotta finish up my step-dads pro-street AMC Gremlin sittin in the garage

I'll post more as I go, but if you know any more CB750 sites, feel free to PM me

thanks!
