Been Around the Block
I discovered cafe's a few months ago and got the itch to build one. About a week ago I purchased a CB500 with a CB550 engine in it. I have started messing with it a little, but not much, have to get some free time and figure out a building space first. This should be way fun, I have absolutely no bike experience, but I do know a little about car engines. I am planning on stripping the bike bare to re-paint it, then rebuilding the whole thing. Hopefully I will find some good help on here for that. Here is what it looks like so far.

Welcome, nice looking ride!

In my short time on DTT I have found that there is a wealth of knowledge and everyone is more than happy to help.

Thank you, I had a bit of an idea that I found something nice. Before I found the bike I spent a month and a half reading up on older bikes and checking out web sites to get a little familiar with everything. My original plan was to wait till I finished my school semester before getting a bike, but when I saw that one I could not pass it up. It needs a little work, it leaks oil, from the head gasket, according to the previous owner. It has a 72 CB500 frame with a CB550 engine from a 76 or 77 super sport I think (the engine number is CB550E-11432..). The tank is banged up but I got a good deal on one from a 77 CB750. I am starting to search around for other parts that I need, so when I finally get the time to work on the bike I can be ready.

AWWW SO YOUR THE ONE! I was in line to take a look at this bike if you failed to come through.. Guess it worked out cuz we both scored great deals.

I got the bike, what kind of deal did you end up with? I'm hoping to begin my rebuild of the bike next week, I've been collecting things for it and waiting until a break from school. I can't wait to get started.

I got a 1975 CB550K that is complete and not missing a thing. Runs strong other than the carbs needing to be cleaned. $500
