your oppinions please

Been Around the Block
right then, I have aquired a very cheap (free) honda 200 engine, but no frame. now for the oppinion bit, I will be making a street tracker/cafe'ish (no clip ons ) type bike so....
Do I
1. find a honda 200 frame
2. find any steel tube frame that will fit the motor in
3. go all moddern and use alloy frame

answers on a post card ;D

Option 2.

I'd look at an old trail bike frame if you are going tracker as this would be the lightest option.

I'd put the 200 motor on the shelf for spares and find a complete bike - it is so much cheaper in the long run. Or look for a CB200 really cheap that's in good condition but dead cheap because the motor is stuck.

+1... Or just sell the motor and buy a ratty (but mostly there) project bike that has a little more zip than the 200cc boat anchor of a motor you have now. ;) 200s are pretty boring no matter what you stick them in, short of massive (and expensive) engine mods.

Yeah +1. Those cb200s are just plain dull. Underpowered. Heavy. I know some people like em (Rich ;D) but I can't see not getting bored really quickly. I took mine apart...and it's been that way for two years. I have no desire to make anything of it.

thanks for the responces, I know they're not the fastest thing in the world, but free is free I will pop over the road and talk to my friend, as he has a trial and motor x breakers, see if he has a frame that would suit :)

If i had an extra small engine, i think i'd polish it up a little, and make a cool end table out of it

You need more than just a frame with a title, you need the whole rest of as bike and trust me - buying it in parts can be expensive.

That's a good point teazer.

Did you get anything else with the engine? Carbs, wiring harness, coils, etc??

If not, then the old saying "There's no such thing as a free bike" comes to mind.

...barstool?

good point teazer, but I have a few bits put a side - swing arm, wheels, front end
tank and seat will depend on what frame I use.

hillsy, not sure yet as I've not been to see my mate. He's says it's come out of a running bike his mate has stripped. If it doesn't come complete I will not bother as there are better things on ebay for not much money 8)

Is a 200 what you really want, or want to work on it because it was free? It'll be more expensive to build or from scratch than to find a titled bike. Sell the 200 and but what you want. I'm sure the donor won't care.

I was once given a nice fresh water aquarium setup for free. I sold it to buy a salt water setup, because what I was given was not what I really wanted. Donor understood and wasn't offended.

the 200 would do.
what I set out to aquire was a small (sub 500cc) four stroke twin (or even a single) air cooled bike to either cafe or tracker.
I really wanted a 2 stroke but high prices in UK forced me to look for a 4 stroke
