z650 Cafe Racer

INSTRUMENT PANEL:

As you can see i have taken the original instrument panel apart and removed the lights (carefully labelling each one so i dont forget which ones are which) - i am assuming that i will need to replace each one of these bulbs with new bezel/warning lights.

CONNECTING THE LOOM:

I also bought myself a multimeter and started connecting the loom. Found the keys (good start) and connected everything as best i could (without ignition coils etc) like indicators, horn, brake light (ill buy a fancier brake light when i find one i like).

indicators and brake light works - horn and headlight doesnt.

some of the warning lights arent lighting up either. Needs more connecting!

just beta version at this stage

gotta hand drill some holes for the tacho or alternatively...

change design - trim the edges more and tighten it all up - in AutoCADfirst then get another one cranked out on the CNC...

it will look less bulky when i have the tacho on - and i have a fancy addition of aluminium planned for the warning light section...

and i managed to get the newly deliverd brake light installed

I didnt know that the foot switch wasnt switching off so i had it on all the time. I was confused until i found that.

also tidied up the wires a bit and installed the indicators on there with rubber grommets fitted in the frame. (also version 1...)

Very nice metaltriumph. Love the paint.

Where did you get the little indicators lights for the instrument panel. I've been looking locally for ones like that for my KZ650 gauge project, but haven't been able to find them.

Great build all the way around. It was a feast to my eyes, thanks for the many photos and inspirations. Keep up the good work.

I guess I better watch my seat when i take it to the upholsterer. Hmmmm

just finshed version 2 of the dash. A few improvements and design changes but still nice and simple and all the holes were there this time!

lightly cleaned up with wet & try after it came out of the CNC

Polished with wet&dry, then steel wool, then mothers. Unfortunately I had to drilll one hole by hand...my fault in the original AutoCAD design

With both guages this time

installed with the original rubber mounts but some new bolts.

Ok a little more progress over the Christmas break
