Gouging the cylinder head - salvageable? Cam question as well

You could have that head skimmed at a machine shop for around $80-$100, I used to do them all the time when I was machining. Just be sure to have them record how much they take off so you can make up the difference with a thicker gasket for timing purposes. However, I agree with the others...

Idiot responds to my for sale ad.

I was thinking the same thing. If Honda hadn’t made 40 million of them, or if they were actually some kind of special, then sure. But, you know, it’s not... so yeah. Douchebag keyboard warrior.

    Honda fork flip

I'll second the swapping to the dual disc CB750 forks. Gives you much needed braking power and it's actually set up for rear mounted calipers. I did this on my 79 750 with a front end from an 82 F model.

    RIP Alex jb

I haven't been on in forever, and didn't know him here, but rest easy brother. This year has been really bad for bike accidents. Everyone ride safe.

    My new ride: 83 CB650

As this isn't an actual project, but more of an ongoing swapping out of parts, changes are usually only made when something either wears out or I get tired of dealing with it. So when I finally had enough of the awkward angle of the stock bars, I did something about it. 1: Old bar angle vs new...

    TX500 parts

Update, tank, petcocks, gas cap are sold off. Everything else is still available, but I’ll be moving some of it to the recycler in the next week or two, so if you need something, let me know before it’s gone!

    Project Shinjimei- 73 TX500

Maybe buy a blank sprocket from somewhere like McMaster-Carr and have it broached at a shop to fit the splines of the engine?

    TX500 parts

Well, there comes a time when you just have to throw in the towel and call it quits on a project. This thing has been sitting for a while now, and I just have to realize that I’m not going to finish it. Life just doesn’t have enough time for a rebuild of this size, so I’m unloading everything...

XJ750 Seca super ridiculous budget build

Usually she does too, but the TX has been sitting in boxes for 2 years and this one was complete and takes up less space. Haha

XJ750 Seca super ridiculous budget build

Ok, so I was sitting here watching TV, and the wife looks over at me and says “Are Yamaha’s good bikes?” Cue my interest! Guy was selling a complete 82 XJ750 Seca 3 miles away. Price was 300 OBO, so I went and took a look. First thing I noticed, no battery. Ok, so he hooked it up to his TL1000...

    exhaust kinks

It shouldn't be an issue as long as it's just the muffler and not the head pipe. 1/2"-1" would be fine so much as when it flexes there's no contact.

I want to learn how to weld.

Heat is your friend and your enemy. Gotta get it hot enough to get penetration but too hot and you'll get the distortion. My boss taught me to weld, same as you, never held a stinger in my life, now I'm welding steel, stainless, aluminum, cast iron, etc. Tig gives you way more control and almost...

    1991 Slingshot

I'd second the clevis idea and make it removable. Way easier than welding onto the original aluminum frame and makes future repairs less of a headache.

    My new ride: 83 CB650

Did some much needed maintenance this past weekend. Valve cover gasket, oil and filter, new o rings for the filter housing, fork seals and fluid. Also painted the faded purple/gray/ primer.
