** PICS OF MEMBERS RIDES ** - Official Before & After Thread

Thanks, guys. It really is a gas to scoot around on and certainly gets its fair share of attention. Finally got it up and running at a triples rally in Paris, ON in June. I think there were 19 triples there, many in showroom or nicer condition, along with a few very cool customs. Cheers, N.

** PICS OF MEMBERS RIDES ** - Official Before & After Thread

HI Guys, Thought I'd share my recently completed '71 Kawasaki H1A project - don't see too many 2-strokes on here but here goes. This is what mine originally looked like (but this isn't my bike): And here's what I'm screaming around on now: Cheers, N.

    first time seat build.

Hey ph!L, Lookin' good. I like the shape of the rear hump. Are you planning on losing the stock rear fender and taillight? If so, what are you thinking of replacing them with? Would you be cutting out that fender bracket connecting the frame rails to get the seat down flush on the frame...

    Question about prepping for paint...

Anybody have any recommendations for stripping old paint from plastic bodywork? I'm about to bead blast my steel tank and side covers but the cafe seat I built uses a plastic Z-1 tailpiece (http://dotheton.com/index.php?topic=12248.0) and I'm not sure the best way to strip it. Any and all...

Cafe seat fab for a Kawasaki H1A

tWisted, I think you're probably right about the leather cover. Plus I've got a repro stencil of the Kawasaki logo from the back of the stock seat that I'd like to apply to the forward-facing bumstop. I'm sure there's come kind of paint that would stand up well on leather - not so sure about on...

Cafe seat fab for a Kawasaki H1A

Here's how I've decided to trim the forward-facing 'arms' of the tailpiece. So the top and bottom edges are parallel, and parallel to the lines of the pan. Before and after trimming (Currently just taped off with electrical tape to give the effect.):

noahdog, thanks for the link on that foam. I may give it a try. Mr. tWisted, thanks very much for the words, but stop .... you're making me blush :-[ :-[ Cheers, Neil

Yes, the padding will be cut to match the front lip on the pan. Not sure what microcell foam is, or where it can be obtained. I'd consider it if you can give me some details or a link. I was just planning on a pad on the upper surface as the gloss black sides of the pan match the gloss black...

Cafe seat fab for a Kawasaki H1A

Here I go again...the final episode in the seat saga Had to design and make a few brackets to hold the taillight bracket to the tailpiece. Since the tailpiece is plastic I thought it best to sandwich it between aluminum plates using gaskets cut from inner tubes. Next I started...

Cafe seat fab for a Kawasaki H1A

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I'm flattered - just another hack working in his garage... What I'm trying to build is a period correct cafe bike with minimal modern upgrades. I've got shocks, rearsets, clip-ons and even a set of NOS expansion chambers from back in the day. My upgrade to a...

Cafe seat fab for a Kawasaki H1A

Thanks. I'm using the plastic inner rear fender from a different Kaw triple. The underside of the tailpiece is trimmed to match the curvature of the top of the fender so the license plate bracket becomes a continuation of the fender (if that makes sense?).

Cafe seat fab for a Kawasaki H1A

Hi Guys, here`s my second installment: The final touch for the pan was to trim one of the hinges so the seat would lift fully with tailpiece connected. I decided I'll use some light aircraft cable connecting the seat to the frame for a stop. Next, it was time to fab some kind of...

Cafe seat fab for a Kawasaki H1A

Thanks, guys. The tailpiece is still a go - I think it really compliments the lines of the '71 tank and side covers. 17 mpg?? I don't think they're that bad. They get at least 19 or 20. More to come... Cheers.

Cafe seat fab for a Kawasaki H1A

Hi All, I'm new to the forum but I've been working on this 'ol two stroke for the last couple of winters. Last winter I got serious about getting my solo seat off the drawing board and into production. I've owned the bike since the late '70's and way back in the day I picked up a tailpiece from...

Hey Fellow Cafe fans. Just found this forum but I wish I would have a long time back - looks like a huge pool of communal smarts and innovation when it comes to DIY custom work. I've got a few early Kawasaki H1 500's in various states of being built. Tops on the list is the '71 H1A I've owned...
