Rebuilding rear section questions... what size tubing to use, etc, etc

Glad I could help some. The bike is still under construction over a year later but this is the latest shot several months ago. It's been put on hold until I get some more free time to devote to it.

Rebuilding rear section questions... what size tubing to use, etc, etc

The frames on these CB400Ts doesn't have a lot of potential. The only way to really fix them is to cut and weld a new subframe so I think you're on the right track. I did the same thing with my bike. like someone already said, you'll have to use plugs to join the new tubing to the old. I...

    CB400T etc Pod filter fix!

That would be awesome, but no worries if you can't. I know it's a pain to pull the carbs. Yeah, the price seems really reasonable, I just have easy access to an entire shop of tools and materials so it would be fairly easy for me to fabricate any parts and I'm hoping to keep the spending to a...

    CB400T etc Pod filter fix!

Any more input/reviews on this kit? I'm hoping to fabricate the parts that are included in the kit (minus the jets) and I could use any more info I can get. If anyone has specifics on the parts like dimensions, materials, photos, etc. it would make it a lot easier. The main thing I'm missing...

    CM400 Re-Re-rebuild.

Have any input on tuning the carbs with the pod filters and shorty mufflers? This is the setup I'm going for on my CB400T. Awesome build by the way

    80HWK - 80 CB400 Hawk Build

Awesome build. I've gained some inspiration for mine after seeing the work you've done. I was wondering how the bike was running with the pod filters and shorty mufflers. I'm looking to do the same setup.

Thanks. I'm actually just getting around to putting on some finishing touches. I'll be updating the blog in the next few weeks on my progress and hopefully some finished shots of the bike all together. I've been really busy but the itch to ride is getting too much to bear so I'm trying to get it...

    CB350 Project

Thanks for the input. I ended up keeping the 1" step. I drilled a 7/8" hole because my plate wasn't completely perpendicular to the axis of the shock mount so I just dremeled it out to 1" on the correct axis. Did what you said and welded it from the front and rear of the plate so it shouldn't be...

Not quite. The rims on laced wheels are not always centered on the hub so there is an offset. I'm using the original wheels, I just need to know the offset for truing the wheels. I appreciate the input though. I might try to align it with the fork and swingarm if I can't find any definite specs...

    So you bought a CM400 / CB400T, now what...(50+ Build Links!)

Could anyone help me out? I've relaced my wheels but forgot to measure the hub offset of the rims before disassembly. If anyone could measure this it would be awesome. I'm looking for the offset from the rim to the widest part of the hub on the "open" drum side of the front and rear wheel...

Thanks. I'm looking forward to seeing where you take your build. I started appreciating those CM400s after seeing some cool builds on here.. really seems to come down to the seat on that frame to make it or break it. Mine has taken a slightly different direction since those renders.. I hadn't...

If anyone is interested in checking out my build, I just started a blog to keep track of the progress and I put a link down below. I'm completing my thesis on the value of shop craft and it's centered around my 78 CB400T build. I'll be updating it a lot more in the next few weeks as I plan to...

    CB450 rear shock mount length?

I'm building custom upper shock mounts for the rear of my CB400T and am about to turn down some 1" round stock to 5/8" to fit inside the eye of the shock. I'll be drilling and tapping the end of it for an M6 bolt and washer to cover the bushing. My question is, how long is the stock shock mount...

    So you bought a CM400 / CB400T, now what...(50+ Build Links!)

That's awesome. Thought of doing something similar with an old school engraving gun that people use to mark tools (like a tattoo gun with a hard metal point). I just finished welding up my custom rear subframe and I'm about to tackle the shock mounts. Do you think I need to keep the 1" step on...

by the way, awesome bike. Saw it on a blog the other day. How did you do the engraving? what tools, etc?
