I had a similar problem with my charging system as well. Check the ground wire of the regulator and be sure it's properly grounded, that fixed my problem. Also the book should have a series of tests for you to check weather its good or bad.

Food for thought Kop: it's worth mentioning that this happens in every gear at around 5500 RPM. It seems unlikely to me that all the dog gears and slots are equally worn. However, I really don't have any experience to back up that claim. I'm not disregarding your suggestion, but would you think...

So if you've followed this whole thread, you'll remember I had a problem with the xmsn jumping out of gear at 5500 RPM. Well the detent I replaced doesn't seem to have fixed the problem. I didn't want to do it, but I may have to replace the shift drum. FML.
