Re: 1976 CB550F "Barn Find" I will be redoing the electronics bay, especially now that I have access to a full machine shop, and his fusebox is number one on that list. Second is the regulator/rectifier

Re: 1976 CB550F "Barn Find" Ive wanted one of his harnesses but they're a little out of my budget. Once it's riding and everything else is out of the way to make it safe, I'll hop on it for sure. Function over form right now. Like you guys said, I want it on the road this season!

Re: 1976 CB550F "Barn Find" Great! That's exactly what I was looking for! Any suggestions for dealing with extra harness that hangs in front? I have a smaller headlight bucket, so I can't cram things in there.

Re: 1976 CB550F "Barn Find" Checked the tank, she's clean as a whistle. The old gas had turned milky, but after a flush, it came out clear. Next on the list: attach the wiring harness to the frame and go through my carbs. If anyone has pictures of the way the 550 wiring harness...

Best tips on ensuring your carbs don't leak after a rebuild?

Good advice so far guys! Just got my rebuild kit in, with the specially shaped o ring. Note, last time I replaced the o ring, it was with the kit from DCC that comes with the circular o ring, which I suspect is the problem since it's leaking from that spot.

Other than visual inspection, how else can I test if my floats are still operating properly? Dump some gas in a bucket and see if it floats?

Best tips on ensuring your carbs don't leak after a rebuild?

So I'm about to dive into my carbs again. I want to make sure that after I rebuild them with new gaskets and what not, that no stone is left unturned and that my carbs won't leak. I want to take my time and do it right. What are the most common causes of leaks, and how can I make sure I don't...

Tried my first start, backfiring out the carbs. Any ideas? (Video)

Got her started. It was definitely the points lobe being 180 off and the timing being trash.

Re: 1976 CB550F "Barn Find" I said fuck it to the chores. Wiped off the pads again, cleaned the spot where the point was sitting, and she's working as expected! Not sure if it was a grounding issue persay, but a thorough cleaning did the trick. Now she's statically timed up. Oh boy!!!

^^^ That makes sense. I gave the points a quick one two with 500 grit sand paper and sprayed them with contact cleaner. Maybe I left some particulates on the pads. Busy day today, will report back over the weekend. Thanks for all your help guys!
