Ah, thanks for shedding light on that! My right leg thanks you. I'm trying to heat shield a bend and so far haven't found any good solutions. Heat shields are straight, and exhaust wrap has its whole list of negatives...
I saw this cool heat shield where it looks like a metal spring or coil is wrapped around just the curve on a header. This is exactly what I want to do with my bike, was just wondering if anyone knows anything about it ie. what to use, is it DIYable, etc. Example is on this video...
The crazy thing is, the parts aren't listed on the diagram with numbers, just as part of the carb body. I've drawn arrows to the shafts I'm referring to on the Keihin 723A carbs. Not sure what other bikes had these carbs on them. The part number for the whole carbs are: 16101-346-690 (Right)...
So I've been chasing down this phantom high idle that some others have had a problem with for...oh I dunno about a YEAR now. After hours and dollars wasted I seem to have found one/the cause of the high idle.
When I first cleaned my carbs they were dipped pretty much whole into Berrymans...

OK so I have dipped the dome and slide in Berryman's for about an hour and left it on the dryer to...
I set the timing using a static light and the marks line up to where it says on the manual.
I do have a strobe somewhere but not sure how to use it without spraying oil everywhere.
For air filters I'm using the Uni "sock" type...
Float bowl was checked and set to manual spec. I used a credit card cutout guide made with a caliper, so its pretty damn close.
I haven't checked the manifold gasket yet, will do that next. Is there a general torque for these, I can't seem to find them in my manual and I read somewhere over...
Got a 74 CB450 that idles high in neutral and in between gears. Starts up in a good idle but then when revved it doesn't drop, and steadily rises up to 4K.
Things I've tried:
- lubed and checked throttle cable routing
- checked throttle butterflys for centering issues
- tightened up advancer...
