Hey guys, I haven't disappeared (er, well, I did for a while...)
So nothing really is new, the bike is still being fussy and I feel we've exhausted all options that are within our very limited range of capabilities, so I'm finally going to seek professional help. If this was just a tinker toy...
WD 40 eh? Will do PJ! Hopefully that shows something. The problem with the gasket thing is that there is actually like a little channel around the float bowl where the two halves join, so if I did paper there would be a void there...would that matter? Maybe I'll take a picture of what I mean...
Okey Dokey - that's kind of what we're thinking too. That left carb boot seems like it might be the problem - we were listening to it today and it's got like an underlying kind of "tick" that sort of sounds like air - it's always done that but seems to have gotten worse. Maybe putting the carbs...
Also, I think that gasket material has failed again - there seems to be fuel leaking from that area again. Anybody know of a good gasket material to use that is fuel proof? At least until I can track down a rebuild kit.
Thanks again!
That picture really does suck - there is a little bit of tanning on the ceramic part (which you can't see in the photo), and the top is grey. There is also some blackening around the top of the threaded part. Sorry about the pic - my good camera is at work
Hey there Big Rich, thanks for chiming in... I need all the help I can get! I made the gasket for the float bowl - the old one was pretty shot, leaking fuel. I'm about to go check on the plug right now.
Also, my bike is a single cylinder 4 stroke with a primary and secondary carb...so what does...
This fricken thing.....
Allrighty I was just out playing with it and...shit's getting weirder. I feel like I've eliminated cable problems so far, and the carb has been removed, cleaned, synced, and re-installed. It took a while to let it get warm so we could re-set the idle speed; during this...
Hey PJ and killerdwarf... I re-routed that vacuum line so it's not tugging on the throttle and I also un-twisted that fuel line as best I could. Tried to smooth out lines/cable routing in general. We also took the carb off to sync and check float hight, re-cleaned it and replaced the gasket in...
Here are the pictures of the cable routing - the first 2 pictures are from standing in front of the bike shooting down behind the front fairing, throttle cables on left, clutch on right
The next picture is from standing on the right side of the bike looking down with the tank removed. You can...
Thanks for your continued input everybody - I know it's gotta be frustrating working with someone who doesn't know what the hell is going on but I appreciate you hangin' in there with me! If I ever fricken figure this out it'll be thanks to you all, no doubt.
I think we're getting warmer though...
Ok I have some more info - I was talking to my fiance about what you guys said and he says the clutch and throttle cables don't really go anywhere near each other on this particular bike. I'll take his word on it for now I guess. Also, it does do this funky rev thing in neutral too - after the...
Guys - thanks for your input. I swear I'm not making this up, I'm just really really novice at this. This is my first bike. PJ I guess I didn't quite understand what you were saying the first time around - I will look into it again for sure. Sounds like there isn't much else it could be.
Again...
Well, I don't think that's it - they all seem to be in order. I was running it tonight and thought maybe I was just being stupid and needed to adjust the idle speed...no such luck. It still revs up to about 5,000 when I engage the clutch to shift. The faster I was able to shift, the less chance...
Hey everybody, happy Saturday. I'm having an odd issue with my '87 SRX 250 - when I engage the clutch, the engine surges up to about 6,000 RPMs. I bought the bike about 2 months ago, non-running. Here's what I've done so far mechanically - soaked and re-built carbs and bottomed out all the...
Ok don't laugh, I know this is a funky little bike but it looks really fun and I don't think the problems he disclosed seem too hard to tackle (allthough it will add to the cost, I know). Anybody see any red flags, any glaring reasons not to give it a go...
