Thanks! I just found out I can take it with me when I move so I'm taking my time again. I used 80 grit and 320 grit sand paper. I can't recall for sure, but I might have gone back to 80 after doing the 320 as it was a little too smooth. The trick is to try and get the pressure even as well as...
The problem lies in keeping the shape I want. Those knee dents are not actually dented nearly that much. I had to build up a decent amount of filler to get the edge.
Will do, thanks! I'll have to buy another bucket of filler though :/ Not only am I wasting it by over globbing and sanding away all day, but I left a plastic spatula in there and it "melted" into the mix. I probably lost about 1/3 of my gallon.
Yikes, yeah I have 100 excuses for it being out there but none of them are good enough. What do I need to do to check it before trying to start her up?
Ok, all the body filling is done! Well, I need to smooth out a few spots with the glaze. Then it's on to paint!
I did something dumb and left my engine outside under a tarp without some pieces on it. It looks like the photo below. Do I need to worry about moisture, or bugs inside?
Thanks, I left around 3 inches maybe more. It looks similar to where the old fender was.
**EDIT** I forgot I had removed the rear springs by the time I made my final measurements. So I'm sure the wheel is indeed going to be too close. It doesn't matter though. I accidentally bought fiberglass...
I used a high quality body filler on the side covers. The one that is cracked down the middle however recracked as I pushed it into place. I'm sure I could have been more gentle as I wasn't thinking about it, but it flexes too much, now I see why the previous owner glued a washer to the back of...
It's time to make the seat. It was far to big so I tried to narrow it down by trimming the sides. After 2.5 hours and 15 heavy duty dremel wheels it was done. Yeah I know now, don't use a dremel. I spent a long time cutting the original padding to try to make it fit with the pan. The whole thing...
I'm trying to use the stock seat pan and foam, but am not very good at this stuff. I cut the foam in half and will probably use the bottom layer since it wraps around the pan. I'll probably shape it a bit more, then cut a thin layer from the top piece to have a nice flat surface (no holes). I...
I also fixed the side covers. I think I have one more layer to go on the tank to get the right shape, then its just time to get it perfectly smooth.
Here are the side covers.
Haha, I had a lot going on and couldn't get any work done. But now I'm living alone for a month and should be able to finish it up quick!
I probably won't have time to give this one away. But Project2Wheels will be giving away bikes in the near future. I figured out a decent business plan to...
Man I'm having a tough time deciding if I want the engine parts to be a mirror or brushed aluminum finish. I feel like brushed looks more aggressive, but I'm trying to hit an almost show room quality (I know, pipe dreams). Here is a sample of a piece I worked on today. Come to think of it, I...
Personally there are so many bikes out there that have titles I only buy titleless bikes for spare parts. This is over priced for not running, and not titled.
After entertaining my Mom for the week I got back to work. I spent a lot of time sanding down the tank, then more carefully building up some layers. Then a LOT more sanding and now I'm finally ready for more layers/sanding. =p I also got some clubmans in the mail that are a bit too big in just...
Thanks guys! Are all of those troughs in the body filler normal? I feel like it had more to do with my amateur technique. I was shocked how fast it sets up. I have the finishing cream. I'm hoping that fills them in real smooth when I'm ready.
So every time I think I'm ready for paint I come up with another thing to do first. This time I decided to take a hammer to my tank and try to hammer out some knee scoops. I also pulled the engine. I'll start polishing parts and painting others.
I started some body filler. I've done 3 coats so...
