Met my dad halfway at a nearby river town to cruise around on checking out the flood levels. We stopped at a local ice cream shop that was filled with other groups of bikers out enjoying the warm summer evening. We got swarmed by folks riding everything from Harleys to crotch rockets to...
Installed new plugs, points and condensor..... no change... still breaking up at high rpm.
Found leaking float and changed out with spare from parts bike... no change.
Soldered up then drilled a set of main jets to 140.... Problem solved. I don't get it. This 1974 had 150 mains with...
160's were way too rich and with the gearing change the stock 150's work the best. I checked my static timing and it is dead on the marks (LF mark and F mark) using an aircraft mag timing buzz box. The left side point gap is .012" and the right side gap is .016" (my manual states an allowable...
Thanks Herm, the '74 K7 had 150's in it to start with and near as I can tell I had the timing set perfect and the carbs synced right using visual/feel method of adjusting throttle cables with the idle stops backed off. The bike starts, idles and runs at lower throttle settings perfectly, but it...
Re: CB 450 project underway!
Here is the only video I have presently with the final version of the mufflers.
For some reason almost all of my previous build pics I posted early on here are not showing up anymore.... I am too lazy to post them all again.
<iframe width="425" height="349"...
Re: CB 450 project underway!
Finally got my 450 titled/plated/insured and on the road. My maiden voyage was an 80 mile round trip to work last week.
It seems as though the stock 150 main jets are too small as it runs rough when accelerating from about 65 mph on up. Might try some 160's as...
Re: CB 450 project underway!
Finally got the mufflers built. It is still loud, but I think it is about right.
I made some flange fittings the hard way from a few chunks of solid 304 stainless. I drew them up on cad for the shop guys at work to make for me, but they were too busy to sneak them...
Re: CB 450 project underway!
Oh yeah!! Tank stickered and cleared. Definitely has a bit of the 1974 Honda Elsinore look I was wanting for it.
Would look even nicer with a BCR fiberglass tank, but the challenge of DIY modding of an original steel tank and a DIY all metal seat pan was too...
Re: CB 450 project underway!
Been busy on a huge honey-do list lately for some parties in our shop my wife is hosting, but I did manage to sneak a bit of work in on the 450 project.
Made up some knurled pegs and mounted my tach, speedo, headlight and ignition switch which are all on non stock...
Re: CB 450 project underway!
I think I used some 1 1/2" OD (Outside Diameter) .065" wall thickness (about 1.370" ID) 4130 tube I had left over from an airplane project, but for your reference:
1" = 25.4mm
35mm divided by 25.4= 1.378"
37mm divided by 24.5= 1.457"
So for the 37mm forks you...
Re: CB 450 project underway!
Thanks for the input..... I always have trouble with paint schemes. I almost have myself talked back into silver tank and seat pan (same color as my painted engine mounts and rearsets) with a couple blacks stripes down the top of them. I absolutely want large...
Re: CB 450 project underway!
After skimming through your awesome website, I may just have to place an order. I need an o-ring chain (is your 104 link 520 the right size for a stock '74 CB450?), some air filters (any guess as to what size mainjets to use with your 48mm pod filters here in...
Re: CB 450 project underway!
Thanks, I have not been spending any time here at DTT........ It seems I missed a new start up company involving Herm (I remember reading about his clean 450 he was building back when I was actively working on mine). I will have to catch up on what you guys are...
Re: CB 450 project underway!
I buy most of my 4130 aircraft tubing from Aircraft Spruce & Specialty unless I have a big airplane fuselage project for which I will shop around some other aircraft supply companies. Aircraft Spruce is on-line and they sell the stuff by the foot whether you want...
