Where are all the Brit bikes?

There is an independent chopper shop down the road that is now selling RE's. This was the first time i had a chance to see the new unit singles close up. Very nice looking bikes and looks to be much better fit and finish compared to the last time they sold RE's in Canada in the mid 90's. The...

Where are all the Brit bikes?

Electronic ignition isn't really necessary. There are areas to improve and areas that putting new parts in old designs will improve it. I've run pint style ignitions on many old cars and I've never had issues with them despite everybody telling me I should convert to electronic ignition. I have...

Where are all the Brit bikes?

I used a Boyer power unit. Two wires out of my alternator, into the Boyer and two wires out of the Boyer into the fuse box. No problems, reliable, inexpensive. Can even run no battery if you wish (I don't recommend.)

Where are all the Brit bikes?

Well if DrJ spent less time online and more time in the shop his bikes might be running.

Where are all the Brit bikes?

Does it have to be a 68? The 60's BSA's are very similar right up to the OIF 72.

    JOB

I spent 12.5 years as a glass maker/industrial mechanic. Graduated from nursing school last year. I've gotten every job I've applied for since. I got tow jobs in one day last spring and I have to turn work down now. It's a good profession and you get used to the blood, gore, poop and death...

Where are all the Brit bikes?

The most expensive part on my bike. Open up a K2F and you'll understand why I run one of these: Another shot from the INOA in Lumby last summer. As the judge told me, "Not the nicest, but it is the rarest."I purposely keep it a little grimey for the rivet counters and waxed cotton boys to have...

Where are all the Brit bikes?

Here's a before picture of the Norton with my homemade battery/toolbox in place. I was able to find a correct battery/toolbox on evilBay off an ES2 that fit. Further along:

Here's a snap from the INOA in Lumby BC Canada last summer. Outside Wolfgang's Laverda Mecca which is absolutely an amazing place full of stuff that will have you selling body parts:

Where are all the Brit bikes?

I hardly see how posting pictures of a bike on a board in the show and shine section is antagonizing members. I hardly see how dispelling myths regarding brit bikes is antagonizing members. Care to explain?

Where are all the Brit bikes?

I used SAE or metric fasteners where ever I could for convenience. In a few places I had to drill out and use thread inserts. I don't trust 40-50 year old bolts with rounded off heads and I won't use them to be "correct" for the snooty waxed cotton boys. I also ditched (well it is on the shelf)...

Where are all the Brit bikes?

I avoid the most Brit boards. Too many "upper crust twits smoking their pipes and arguing over waxed cotton thread count telling me I know nothing because I am under 40 and don't have the proper accent." There are people saying that Brit bikes are too expensive but the odd thing is, I see the...

Where are all the Brit bikes?

A Brit bike is very reasonable if you use your imagination and carefully source things. With the INTERNET, it is easy.

Where are all the Brit bikes?

Other things I did to save money: make my won gaskets. Roll of gasket paper is cheap and it only takes a few minutes to make even complex gaskets, like a timing cover gasket. I used a lot of SAE and metric fasteners on my bike as a convenience. A set of taps and dies and normal tools. Also the...

Where are all the Brit bikes?

The idea that Brit bikes are too expensive is...rubbish. If you know where to look the deals are still to be had. Also, during my rebuilding, I sourced 99% of my parts from the UK namely Norvil and RGM Motors. It was 1) cheaper tot he tune of 1/3 the cost, importing and shipping included...
