Making something new, old again. '96 Nighthawk 750 hacked and fork swapped

Turn is definitely more limited than stock due to the geometry of the crowns. The stock fork had the legs much farther forward in relation to the steerer tube. I had to fabricate a new steering stop to keep everything from touching. Doesn't hinder you at all in riding, but does make for a bit of...

Making something new, old again. '96 Nighthawk 750 hacked and fork swapped

Once the tank was taken care of the bike got torn all the way down to the frame. All the little bits were cleaned and painted and the frame got a nice shiny coat of paint as well.

Making something new, old again. '96 Nighthawk 750 hacked and fork swapped

I run a fabrication shop specializing in off-road vehicles and build everything from small parts to scratch built race cars. Motorcycles aren't really part of my business, but I wouldn't wanna make anyone think I was doing this in my 2-car garage either.

Making something new, old again. '96 Nighthawk 750 hacked and fork swapped

Well the plan was to ride this thing for a little bit to work out the kinks then truly finish it with paint and such. It's been 2-1/2 years since then and I finally decided it was time to stop rubbing it with WD-40 and get some paint on it. A few weeks ago I pulled the tank off and started...

    Finishing my frame

Plating is one job I'll be leaving to the pros. Not to mention I live in CA. I doubt they let anyone come anywhere near any of those chemicals here.

    Finishing my frame

So I'm finally getting back around to finishing my project that I've been riding around in bare steel for over a year now. My plan was always to strip the frame of all paint (half of it is fresh bare steel anyways) and have it nickel plated. Problem is that the plating will definitely show...

Anyone else ever thought of one of these??? JDM Mini-Truck

as far as I know we didn't get the diesel version in the US. Other than that they are the same.

    Epic old aluminum boat

That thing would be pretty f'ing awesome finished out right, but OMG what a fawkton of work it needs. I've got one of the most bare bones simple low maintenance boats you can own and it's a never ending project. I'd hate to see the number of man hours you'd have to put into that thing.

Any fabricators using the DcH2000 cobra

I use a tubing bender for bending tube, a sheet metal brake for bending thin stuff, and a 50ton iron worker for bending thicker plate. None of those require any heat. Take a look at my last build thread here: http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=47694.0 Or this link for the kind of...

Any fabricators using the DcH2000 cobra

I fabricate for a living, and my O/A tanks have been empty for years. Just sayin. Torches have their place, and sometimes they are the right tool for the job, which is why I own one. If we're talking about welding aluminum though, a TIG is the right tool. Now if you have a torch already, by...

    Ducati Pricing

LOL, glad to hear I'm not the only one with fuel level sender issues. I asked my buddy at the dealer about it and he told me to not even bother fixing it because the sender design is just shit. Apparently it's some kind of moisture probe, and even when functioning properly a little sloshing will...

    Lathe noob question

I paid $1000 for my 17" SouthBend AND a short bed 12" Logan. Both in great shape, both gear head with nice tool posts. The Logan even had a 5C collet closer on it. Machine shop had converted to CNC years ago and they had just been sitting and they needed the space. I ended up selling the little...

    Ducati Pricing

I've found that whole maintenance cost thing to be a myth mostly. My 1098 had 24k miles on it when I bought it and since I'm long time friends with the sales guy he was kind enough to print out all the service history. It had the "major" valve service done 3 times, and it only needed adjustment...

    Ducati Pricing

Well that one is pretty easy since it's a current model, and about as new as they come. MSRP is $24,495. That guy is asking $19k for one with 21 miles on it that is a year old. Unless it's been dropped, which it doesn't look like it has I'd say it's not a bad deal. Blue book may say differently...

    Accident Liability Question

Wrong. The reason for the SUV stopping is secondary. It could have been a kid in the street, a piece of debris, whatever. They could have simply stopped because they needed to turn into a driveway. It doesn't matter. What matters is that the bikers were following too closely and didn't stop. It...

    Accident Liability Question

If the SUV owner had hit the dog the dog owner would be liable for damages to the SUV because the dog wasn't properly restrained. That's not what happened however. The dog has absolutely no bearing in this case. The SUV stopped, and the bikes didn't, that's all that matters here. The SUV is...

    Lathe noob question

I used to have one of those little south bends, exactly like that one. It's a very good reliable machine, but you cant take much of a cut with it. If you're trying to remove much material it takes a long time. Now I have a huge 17" southbend and can do SOOOOOOO much more and faster. I also paid...
