There are some great videos on Youtube of guys doing knee dents. Some are certainly more helpful than others. I don't have a link to one specifically but when I did mine I just looked it up, watched 10-15 and picked the best one and went by that. Good LucK!
Hey AlphaDogChoppers, Thanks for making the clarification on that. The only time I have seen one tested was when rebuilding the old Maytag 72 washing machine engine I have. The guy strapped it onto his meter, not sure what it was and it came back as .21 and he stated to me that is what you...
To be honest - and I know some will disagree but I have had condensers off a 1929 Maytag washing machine engine that were still spot on - and original. What you need to do is test the resistance on the condenser. I am not sure what the reading should be for the machine you have but I know most...
Hope you have fun with the new found bike and license. I am about 45 minutes south of you between Prescott and Brockville. A little village called Maitland. I was looking at that bike for sale and was going to go and take a look at it. The only thing keeping me from doing that was the fairing...
This might be a great chance for me to get away from work.... and the house! 14-16 hour days for the next 2 or 3 weeks... including weekends! I am going to put it on the calendar and see about making it down! Sounds awesome!
Great CX build!, have been looking for a CX500 or GL model. I live down the 401 a couple of hours from you in Brockville area. I almost had one from the guy I bought my CB500f off of but he moved before I could make the deal and left the bike with the new owners. They seem to think it is worth a...
Hope all is well over there in Calgary - From Ontario here.... been thinking about everyone down there and hoping for a quick turn around to the devastation. Got any build plans for the "Tempter"?
Great build! I have a '74 CB550 awaiting a good beat-down with the chop saw... "awaiting" is the key word here!
Any ways, as per your paint issues. I would imagine you cleaned all of that stuff up with some varsol/paint thinner before applying that coat? Just wanting to state the obvious of...
Excellent thread Texas! I just wasted a great part of my work day reading this inspirational post. I do not have a son but my daughter loves to be in the shop with me. She is only 3 so her attention span is that of a gnat, and mine isn't far off from that either. When she does come out she wants...
That was my initial thought as well. I figured it would be rather difficult to fit the top in and get the forks to line up, etc. I didn't want to have to fight with it with all the sealant and stuff on the cases. The last thing I wanted to do was smudge some gasket maker into an oil valley, etc...
Is that bike for sale Boner? Looks familiar and I thought I some it or one very similar running the Kijiji highway. Any ways, I am going to try my hardest to get out to this meet and bring my CB500 Cafe. A bit of a drive coming from Brockville, Ontario area but should be a great road-trip!
I thought it very strange, but in the Honda Manual it specifically states to put the gears in the upper case first and then mate the two together. I scratched my head for a very long while but thought I should do it since the bearing clips and plugs are in the top case - or go "in" the top case...
Just wanted to give an update. Been a bit of a lame build thread. I have a bunch of pictures from the build-up which I will post at some point. This is the latest picture of it at this stage. Engine was completely stripped down, soda-blasted, new seals, gaskets, etc. Everything went very...
I have found the best thing to do is find an online source that will tell you the actual Honda part number, then get over to Honda. I live in Ontario, Canada and this is how I have been doing my Honda shopping. My dealership in particular do not have any reference materials past 1995 for any...
Here are some progress pictures. I removed the fairing and I think it looks better without it. That will be a decision down the road. I was able to get the bike completely tore down this afternoon and everything came out like it was new! Nothing seized and nothing stripped! Here are some pictures.
Thanks canyoncarver! I have been starting to clean it up as I tear it down. I wanted to try the aluminum foil and water trick on the chrome and man, am I impressed! A couple of before and after shots.
