thank you for this, i moved to AZ a week ago and had to put everything on hold for a few weeks but i did get that original head back on after showing it to a machine shop they said it should be fine to use as is. Im sure ill end up just buying the cb400t correct one shortly after the rest of the...
I ordered this head with out paying close enough attention... the valves are smaller and it there is a ridge that my cb400t head does not have ...
here is the cm400a with the smaller valves
and my cb400t head as you can see has the larger valves that i think the cm400 can accommodate its...
Nice work, doesnt look like you are as poor of man as your title led me to believe but hey call it what you want its come'n out sick. I got lazy when it came to sand blasting and did soda blast, you just don't get that fresh cast look with baking soda :/.
Just got back from the junkie found a similar rectifier and if mine was connected during all those attempts it might aswell not have been the one i tested at the junkie looked like hell and gave me readings in the reverse direction of 1400-1800 on yellows and mine was in the 480-500 books still...
nice thank you, your heads cam seats look 100% compared to mine. after more research into the scoring of my seats ive found its best to trash this my valves and springs are all good so are the holders so ill be in good shape with just your head. ill look forward to that shipping price and thank...
Looks like my rectifier took a little heat when i tried using it to drop a quick bead with the welder to hold a metal plate on the seat pan that i initially planned to use to mount it. if that split second bead weld fried it i wouldn't be surprised.
Just used the ohm meter in one direction...
Re: 1978 Honda cb400t cafe/streetfighter build (beginning)
yeah the cheaper harbor frieght 90 amp welder.. i was using a 15 amp plug min required box says is 20 amp, it makes a huge difference but those plates while not beautiful hold well.
I think to have one that wont grind away at my new ( used, new to me) cam would be a nice piece of mind, im in california i can send you money through paypal or chase quick pay if you bank with them, If you have it ill take it.. using mine is a gamble im not sure i want to take.
thanks maritimI rushed into ordering the cam shaft last night, i think my head is good im going to measure it to make sure there is no warpage but the cam still turned smoothly when testing it. The only damage was the the side wall
and before when re-positioning the cam the first time i...
I put the airbox in and the difference was day and night, it took a second to kick in but than it started idling like the day before i took it apart and would rev nice up to 2500-3000rpm but than wanted to die again but with a slightly bigger will to stay on if eased off the throttle...
Re: 1978 Honda cb400t cafe/streetfighter build (beginning)
THanks joon-yah so i happy i did it, here it is minus the motor that is currently installed and giving my inexperience alot of trouble
alright just tried starting her after re positioning the cam and sprocket and setting "t" to TDC on what i believe is the compression stroke and it started the 2nd kick and much easier but still no rev past 3k however the airbox is still off so i ill put that on right now and try it once more...
Re: 1978 Honda cb400t cafe/streetfighter build (beginning)
thank you for checking that, i actually did mount it under the seat pan just havnt uploaded the pics but its nice to know you got my back because that would have fried in that position
ok i flipped that thing upside down although i started confusing myslef on the compression stroke, right now the cam and sprocket are lined up to the "t" mark and if i turn it the cam depressed the exhaust valve... i know this might sound stupid but does that mean its on the exhaust stroke or it...
I need the clymers manual i have the honda manual but it leaves alot out ive felt through this process and shows imagery of different years for your specific year and that also is confusing.
Yeah i just checked ... on the compression stroke with the piston at TDC the cam and sprocket are upside down..... i will switch this around shortly and tighten her back up put the airbox on and start her again... Does anyone know what kind of damage i could have done that wont let the electric...

Thanks Maritime i will contact the shop to get those jets, i did put the old muffler system on last night and wow im not sure if i tried the electric start too many times but it sounds like loose bearings spinning around now and doesnt turn the alternator, I can still start with the kickstart...
