Very nice indeed. I've always liked the Savage for it's super clean lines. That motor is a thing of beauty. Always wondered why not many people make customs or cafes out of it.
I agree. They're a bomb proof power plant. Hell, they haven't changed much in 20 yrs, haven't needed to. And they're cheap. I guess its cause they(stock) kinda fall into the "beginer" or "girly" catagory.
I've seen Buzzard splitting lanes thru ATL traffic doing 90mph. He gives it hell.

Oh, and thanks for the kind words guys!

Heres the details.

Starting at the front, the 21" is from some unkown dirt bike. We made an axel to fit and fabbed up a tab to anchor the drum brake. I shaved and polished the forks and topped em with 16" apes. I spent hours shaving the light/instrument cluster off the tank(nobody notices, guess thats the point). The seat is from West Eagle.I made the fake oiltank/battery and electrical box from an old extenguisher. We hard tailed the frame by gusseting the swing arm to the frame, the scalloped ones you can see and more bracing inboard that you can't see. On the exhaust, we hacked the huge, old muffler off and added a 45 bend from Mienike and an old shorty I had laying aroud. Cheap thrills!

Glad you guys dig it!

That thing is dope!

I am all about the "girly" bikes... well sort of ::)...

Think about it, the old CB's and XS are getting more and more expensive these days, but one thing that is still going down in price is the bikes from the 80's. Now they are close to 30 yrs old, so good deals can be made... that and the fact that a lot of these are still new enough to be running and have titles still. I tell you what 80's girly bikes are the shit! They pretty much are the new cb350.

Nice Savage!

I always recommend it as a good starting point for a custom. Even brand new they run $4200, nobody wants them used (they tend to frag timing chains around 15K miles), and you just don't see many of them.

Things to watch for on them:
Belts are $400 MSRP, they are always set too tight, and they tend to crack. If you can twist the belt 90 degrees mid-span of the lower run, without your fingernail beds going pure white, it is just right. Throw the plunger gauge away, you don't need it. Swingarm marks don't line up, at all. Use a yard stick across the pulleys to make sure the wheel is straight.

CDI box is fragile, and it will fill with water if you are not careful.

Charging system is weak.

Coil has a glued in plug lead. Get a CL type with replaceable lead.

They eat stock heat range spark plugs, go one colder.

150 or 155 main with a 50 or 55 pilot will eliminate the factory flat spot. Pull the air screw plug and go out an extra turn. Choke no longer needed unless it is bitterly cold.

The stock paint is garbage.

I've had mine since February 1998.
