Clutch pulls in but wont engage / Can't shift above 2nd

Been Around the Block
Hey guys, I thought I would post this question here copied from my build thread to get a few more ideas for some help! :)

"...I have run into another problem... The gearbox!

I can shift into 1st and into 2nd from neutral but I can't go beyond 2nd. I was told to try rolling a bike a tiny bit and then shift into 3rd because it would select the gear fully while turning over?

The clutch is also screwing me around. When I pull it in, it doesn't seem to the free the gears so the engine still turns over with the clutch in. Any idea what could be wrong? I haven't opened up the right hand side other than the outer cover (just where the kick-lever return spring is) as I'm lacking confidence and there is a few things to remove! ::)

From what I can see inside the outer cover, the spring and the arm seem to be in working order. I just haven't gone beyond that.

Any hints would be a serious help! ??? ;D"

Is this with the bike sitting or runing? I've noticed my XS650 does this, when the bike is not moving you can't shift up past 2nd. When driving all gears work normally. Think it's something to do with the way syncrocmesh works???

If you haven't had the bike running I wouldn't worry too much
