CM250 bobber on the cheap

Been Around the Block
I traded some used tires that were taking up space for this 1982 CM250. This is what it looked like when I unloaded it.

That's a straight bar. It's a little uncomfortable. A drag bar will probably happen. Maybe a riser with 3" pull back.

But first, the wiring.

I spent too much time being overly meticulous with the wiring. But it looks good now, and I don't have to worry about a fire. 8)

She runs. Although only for a few seconds from ether. Cleaned the varnish from the carb, but the tank still has light surface rust and rank fuel. New plugs, plug caps (wire ends), fork seals, and fresh oil.

I need to have a new front brake cable made, new throttle cables, clutch lever, rear brake shoes, battery, and seat.

I also plan on running a two tail lights/turn signal set up. this is the bike my wife will learn on while I finish her dipped in chrome request.
me: "Baby, let's de-chrome it." wife: "But I like chrome, I want more." Nearly $3000 of custom chrome and I'm still not done with "her first bike". That on is an 86 rebel BTW
When I get this running, she can drop it all she wants.

Drove it up and down the street a few times today. Might need a little more carb work. Fixed the rear breaks, but the front are going to be a problem. The only place in town that makes cables are way over priced and dick heads. Guess I'll just ahve to bite the bullet. It smokes a little. It may stop altogether. the guy said he poured ATF in the cylinders. it smoked a lot for about half an hour, now just barely.
The jack ass welded the shift lever onto the shaft. I'm going to have to figure that out. the lever is bent and makes it hard to shift from first to second. Other than that, it's great, for a 250.
I'm also going to have to either move the pegs and foot controls forward, or pull the bar back... or both. It's uncomfortable for my long legs to fold up on the pegs, but I don't think my wife will be able to control the bike well stretched out to reach the bars.
going to buy lights and other nick nacks this week.

if you don't need the bracket that carries the passenger peg and exhaust mount, i'll take them off your hands happily - i think they'd help me a chunk :)

I think I'm going to leave it as is. I'm putting no money into this bike. It's for my wife to drop while I finish her chrome dipped catastrophe. So I'm not going to build an exhaust.

I found a seat, though it needs to be covered. and I shopped up an old fender for stubby on the rear mounted very close to the tire. I'm probably going to paint the wheels and hubs black and maybe drill some holes. That chrome chain guard has to go. It rides great (considering it has no seat yet). Still have to run across town to have my brake cable made. Still trying to find the right tail/turn lights. If I paint the tank, I'm going to paint the motor too. I think it's going to be a nice bike when I'm done.
