So my coworker's husband just got a new (2003 I think) Yamaha V-Star 650 Custom. He brought it to the office on a visit, saw my 78 CB750 in the parking lot and told me he has a 79 in his garage that he was about to junk. "If you're going to part with it, I'd be interested," I said. He said he'd just give it to me. So he did just that today.
Warning: eye protection may be necessary. It's been sitting in the garage since 1991. I didn't ask too many questions because it was free, but here it is:
Hey, Equus, look--another purple bike! ;D ;D ;D Noel--yeah, baby, turnouts!
I had just finished washing the car--that's not a giant gas spill.
Speaking of gas, there's still some old stuff in the tank. ???
He doesn't know what happened to the seat.
It came laying flat in the bed of his truck. :-\
At first glance my first thought was "I guess it's getting parted out on eBay." But I did a cursory inspection and I think I can save it. It's mostly there and the engine turns over. The clutch, however, seems to be locked up.
I've pulled off the carbs and will be cleaning those first. The wiring is...interesting--lots of those scotchlock connectors in the headlight bucket.
This will be the slow summer when-I-have-the-time project. I'd like to see it run again because I think it's worth saving. Plus I think my coworker would like to see it on the road--she said she and her husband went to their first date on it.
I have yet to decide if I'm going restore it or cafe it. *sigh* I need a bigger garage...
