New rider looking for a ride near Cincinnati

http://cleveland.craigslist.org/search/sss?query=cb%20750

It's all the ones that are in Avon. And it looks like he did start parting it out. But he might not have sold stuff yet. its only been a couple of days.

Quite a few on CracksList. Of course, coming with them are the crack head prices. Some people want a mint for junkers. Saw a few for sale at the Walnecks Swap meet today in Springfield, but nothing great. Alot smaller this year...kinda disappointing. Could always hook you up with a GS, a far superior bike anyway :p (mwahahahah)

Assuming you were local and had a GS to sell me for something a college student could afford. Yeah, I'd be totally interested. Until then, tirelessly browsing craigslist.

Well, I found a bike, a 1978 CB750K. It's cheap.

I asked the owner to check the compression using his compression guage, and he gave me really low readings. 95-105 on 3 of the cylinders and an 80. I wonder if he tested it with the throttle wide open or not. I am asking him to do a wet compression test to see if the rings need replaced or I need to fiddle with the valves. Regardless, the top end is going to come off.

I might be able to score it for around 300 bucks, the chrome is decent but the tank is questionable, and the paints pretty ugly. It has 25,000 miles. How concerned should I be with the compression?

How much do you think I'll bury my wallet rebuilding the top end? Atleast the engine isn't seized though.

I've seen waaay worse. if you're going to take it apart anyways. then what the heck. I feel now that i could never buy a bike that didnt need something done to it. And when i get a bike that runs i just get other things for it, that it really doesnt need. But gives me something to do.

Those bikes are rad. I live just off campus too. I have a CB450 that I'm trying to get back on the road. Hopefully before winter!
Good luck with the search.

Here's a picture of my bike. Say hi if you see me around.
