Not a fighter, yet

Been Around the Block
Got done painting my 86 GPz900R. Only problem was a pinhole gas leak that ruined the tank's paint, but I will fix and get back on sometime this week. I like the full fairing but love the fighter look so am looking for ideas on what to do.

Have a look over here:

Yeah - it's a German site, but there's some nice visitors bikes in there :p

very cool scoot, and FAST as i recall! hell ya man, no flat black it is so play'd out... go bright and bling!!!

I say do a little slimming and trimming! Cut down the rear tail to slim it up and get rid of the side cover looking parts, clean up the bits that are under those side cover parts, cut the fairing to get a nice belly pan, and you may have to clean up the subframe a bit to make the ass look right. Add a home made undertail, a tail light combo light that has signals built in, and a nice 7" headlight with some mini LED signals. I say clip-ons, but some will say superbike bars, hell, use what you like. In any fashion, do what makes you happy and what you like. I am just throwing out some ideas that came to me when I looked at the pic. That fairing cut down would make a bitchin belly pan! I think a nice old school inspired paint job would look cool, but use some more modern colors and exadurate the shapes of the designs to be much larger that they were on the vintage bikes. Use like a three color or four color scheme that uses black and white as accents on two other bright colors and maybe one of those two being metalic. Well that should be enough for you to ponder on for now.

Cheers
Brandon

Oooh....more inspiration

It's a 900 with a ZX12 motor... ;)

+1 ^, if you want a custom look, you have to create it, that is what custom is! If you leave the body work mostly factory, like above, it still looks like a factory bike. I like the look of a custom bike that looks as if it could have been a factory model, and only hip guys in the know, know that it is not a factory bike. But that look is best suited to vintage bikes in my opinion, so as far as the fighter scene goes, I say you really have to step it up to make it stand out! The vents are a cool idea, and Joe happens to be very creative with the stuff! You can really do a lot to step outside of the norm with this bike, I really want to see you go crazy with this thing!

The worst that will happen is that you chop up parts that are somewhat hard to replace; however, it will be a huge learning experience. My suggestion is to photoshop the mods you may be thinking of doing, then try and execute them. "...measure twice, cut once" is what they always say, and photoshop will let you cut like crazy without even damaging one part.

I like where you are thinking with a CBR tail section.

Unless you are planning on changing the tank and using none of the original body in any way, I say it is a no go on the CBR tail! We have all seen this same mod done a thousand times, and every time it looks like you stuck some other tail on a bike that it don't belong on! The shapes and lines never match and it winds up looking like a jalopy mess IMO!

I guess I am so fresh to this joint that I just have never seen the combo of a Buell fairing, CBR seat and the bike in question. I guess it could easily look like ass. Most of the Streetfighter/stunters I see in real life have a very, very truncated tail section (w/ exception of bikes with 12 o'clock bars on the tail), much like a modern version of a bobber, to explain it the way I see them. No, I don't have a cellphone camera handy to photograph every thing I see.

I like the CBR tail section, but possibly with a tank that matches and zero front bodywork.

I work so much as I go along that one thing I go for metamorphises into something entirely different by the time I have posted pics of it on a forum and look at it whilst not drunk from the feeling of pseudo-accomplishment. I usually see reason when I see a photo of some of the silly crap I came up with.

Let's help this cat work the bike out!!!
