Painted Engine = Overheat?

I'm going to be painting my engine soon but I saw on a forum that someone painted their engine using the high temp. engine paint and it caused their engine to overheat because the paint acted as an insulator. Has anyone else heard of this? That's the first time I've heard of that so I'm just wondering if I should be concerned about that at all. Also, what brands of paint would you guys recommend for painting my frame and body parts? I've watched videos where they say to use rustoleum, but looking on here it seems people prefer duplicolor

No paint on earth is going to cause your engine to overheat.

Thicker coatings do in theory help retain heat, but if you're running so close to the edge that a thin layer of paint makes the difference, well, you've got other issues.

What forum was this posted on? Hopefully not this one :)

I'd say he had other problems that caused him to overheat. Probably made a few modifications at the same time he painted his engine that made his bike run lean, and just blamed it on the paint.

No worries on painting the engine, you'll be fine.

Vincent did tests in the 1950's, paint has to be over 0.015" thick to have an insulating effect
That would be a LOT of primer, paint and clearcoat.
To get colour and coverage you'll probably end up with 0.005~0.007".
You could always measure with a micrometer, piece of steel sheet, primer and paint it then re-measure to see how thick you get

I did 2 coats of Primer and 3 coats of paint on my CB350 engine and there is no difference in temperature.

It's gonna be a while till I paint now... Got my jugs off yesterday and, well, I've got a nice sized gouge in cylinder three. Anyone know a good place to get a set of '74 CB750 jugs besides ebay?

Get an 836 kit in there.
You can also change liners, just need to heat block to around 400 deg F
May be easier (cheaper) to find a block with only 1 or 2 good ones?
Probably best to ask on SOHC4.net

I looked into putting a new sleeve in but once you put them in don't you have to have a machine shop go over the head so it's level and whatnot? An 836 sounds real nice but this is the first time I've ever worked on, well, even owned, a motorcycle, and I'm on a one semester time constraint with a minimum wage budget..
