This build is also part of the 2013 CustomFighters.com Streetfighter Buildoff.

I will pretty much copy and paste from my build thread, and there will be a discussion in a separate thread. Feel free to shoot the shit here about the build or just to talk shop.

Anways here it goes:

Yesterday was just cleaning up and prepping the garage for DW'age.

This bike is in honor of the Marine Corps finest warhorse, Sgt. Reckless. During the Korean war, Reckless humped recoiless rifle rounds to Marines in fighting holes. Legit.

He was also renown for his taste in beer, too.

Here's Reckless before the start of tear down.

After removing tail, tank, subframe and all the other stuff.

I was feeling froggy and thought to myself, could I have the engine dropped by the morning? Fuck that, what's the rush

Well, the ass end is gone. I'm working on the design of the subframe, trying to think of a way to get it designed. I'm thinking of using some pvc as a mock up. The reality of it for me is most of the metal will have to be farmed out to a metal shop at some point but the engineering will be all mine.

Subframe:tube, on the fat side, in a smooth convex curve up, meeting in an arch. Exposed subframe with a small fiberglass/cf tail piece to hide stuff under. Bottom tube: smooth concave curve, trellis bracing. Kicked up at a more aggressive angle, but the seat position I want to do some research on. I was thinking of going to the dealer ship to get some measurements on the seating angle of a bike I find comfortable.

The swingarm I think I'm going to really get into. But it may not be within the buildoff time frame. I would like to design a lightweight and functional piece. Something that is engineered to fit within the best geometry. This will be my engineering project.... I'm only mentioning the swinger just in case you want to brainstorm on it.:lotsocoffee:

List of other shit:

-fork shrouds
-front suspension upgrades/fork swap
-Exhaust (lots of options here)
-General maintenace
-shock swap ('05 ZX-10R rear shock : fully adjustable, yay!)
-Possible rim swap for a fatter ass
-SS brake lines
-paint/powder
-tail
-Speed holes

I'm on board. Is the ZX10 shock a bolt on mod? The shock on my sisters SV is shot.

Are you still having the issues with it running like crap?

The ZX-10R shock has similar dimensions and slightly stiffer spring compared to the stock SV shock. It pretty much bolts in, but requires modding of the battery box to clear the reseverior and I think takes the ninja dogbones. I have adjustable dogbones and will be tweaking for the best geometry.

Got the carbs and rear wheel out. I forgot to remove the front sproket with the rear wheel on, but whatever. I may have a SRAD rear wheel on the way, so that and the shock swap are in work.

I have a couple nice ultrasonic cleaners at work, so I'm going to go through the carbs thoroughly. The exhaust is being worked out too. I may use the LV midpipe with a V&H can. Cut down the can to a few inches and kick it up in the air. The thing is the LV has a better looking exhaust cap.

Then again, a gp style can would be sweet.

decisions.....

She doesn't ride very much so it hasn't been cranked in a while. Last time she pulled it out of the shed though it was still up to it's same old tricks. I really think it may have some sort of vacuum leak or perhaps the carbs don't lie the "desnorkled" air filter.

Oh man I miss my curvy. Good luck with it. They are great bikes and real easy to work with. Here's my old '02

Dropped the stock rear shock. Here's a pic from before, wimpy POS.

Stock on the left, zx-10R on the right. The ZX-10 is fully adjustable!

Bolted her in to check clearances.

It's pretty tight but the spring clears the swingarm, maybe a need for a spacer.

The adjustable dogbones contact the nut from the bottom shock mounting bolt.

Wow - that's tight. There's all sorts of room on the Gen 2's at the swingarm. I put on a ZX14 shock and just had some (temporary) binding on the lower bolt at the dog bones.

How soft was your stock shock? I say my sisters is shot but maybe it's just really soft from the factory?

It's the first gen and the frame is ali.

The stock shock is pretty squishy, depending on the mileage...... it gets real squishy past 15k

Not much to update lately. Cleaned the carbs and ordered a bunch of parts and jets. Been doing a lot more thinking, planning (seems like most of what I do) and parts searching. Looking for 06+ GSXR 600/750 rims and front end.....so if anyone knows about any of that stuff laying around, let me know.

Also, developing an ingenious way to pick the tail up using the stock subframe. As of now, I'll use the stock subby.....Slowly I'm fading out of the imaginationland that I slip into when idealizing the final form of the build. I can think of all kinds of awesome stuff to do, but can't do much when all I have is the equivalent of two wrenches to bang together. So I will continue on to the best of my abilities and tooling to turn out a decent fighter, in honor of the Marine Corps tradition of just fucking getting it done with what you have.
