XS650 Future Bob

Yeah, by now i think I would have taken off the kick starter and pitched the rest of it! (The wheels are pretty nice, though.) The man does have ambition, fortitude, and sticktoitiveness.

It will get there eventually. The wheels aren’t staying, that’s for sure. I’ve got a line on some spoked wheels that I’m going to make work.

Small victories, I blasted the engine with the shop heater for an hour while I did some other stuff and dropped the oil.

It sure looks and smells like oil, no water, so that’s cool.

first the Guzzi now this.... i salute your perseverance!

Even at that, I think you found one of the more flattering pictures of one built off of a TC bros kit. Not that they are horrible by any means, but that voodoo vintage kit is way better looking for all the reasons listed. I don't hate this bike, but it better shows where I think they put the bend in the wrong spot on the TC kit.

The Voodoo is definitely much better looking over all. More of a classic hard tail look IMHO.

Haha what you don't see is the private messages between nick and I talking about how much we like your xs chop. Too many with that kit end up a more of a CHOPPER BORTHER bike with OCC vibes than a cool simple bobber like yours too. Imho of course.

Nah man. That build is rad and part of the inspiration for whatever this bike ends up as. How was the build quality on the pandemonium pipes? I’m leaning in that direction.

I’ve been curious about the condition of the engine and today I let it get the better of me. Pulled the head and with some persuasion the jugs came off too. Unfortunately one of the sleeves didn’t make it so I’ve gotta see what my options are for used jugs, or perhaps the big bore kit.

The cam and rockers all look to be in great shape, so that is a good sign.

Looks like a sleeve is about $130 on MikesXS so I’ll probably that take route and go with a 1st over piston kit and have the cylinders bored.

Rather spend the money on the charging system as I have heard it’s quite lacking on these motors.

They’re perfect. High quality.

Sweet.

Voodoo Hardtail kit has been purchased, so we wait for that.

Looking at eBay there are tons of used jugs for sale for cheaper than the cost of a new sleeve so that makes the most sense to me.

I got a sweet deal for under $200 on a brand new set of VM34s that someone mocked up but never ran. This almost feels like cheating.

Wow...nice score on those carbs.
Yep, I'm pretty pumped. I'm used to dealing with the worst of the worst when it comes to carbs, so this will be nice. I also sold the original crusty CV carbs for $50 to a local guy, so that softened the blow on the Mikunis even more.

Planning to run a Tommaselli Super Pratic B throttle like the Guzzi has on it with a 2-into-1 cable. The internals will need to be swapped out, I did some reading up on here so I've got a good idea for a baseline for jetting.

"New" cylinders from ebay are at Mototech to get bored out, just waiting on pistons to ship out. We're going 2nd over on the pistons due to the rust on the cylinders.

Still need to do some shopping, 5th gear, cam chain and tensioner will get replaced, maybe oil screen depending on how it looks. I haven't pulled the bottom end apart yet.

Today on the “buying parts for the bobber build” thread….

Going to adapt these rear sets to use as forward or mid controls. Fender looks quite good though I want to roll the edge, need to look and see if I have the dies for the bead roller or order them.
