    Honda FT500(ish) tracker!

Yeah, as you say the E-Start has been removed as part of the conversion. This bike still has a battery, but arguably doesn’t need it, though the one that’s there is only a lightweight lithium. The start of the kicker conversion was primarily due to the high comp piston, the weak FT starter...

    Honda FT500(ish) tracker!

The engines are pretty hard to get hold of now, so likely easier to convert the engine he had than replace. Unfortunately in Europe most places sell the engines in component form these days. I have another FT engine with similar spec going into my 250RS project.

    Honda FT500(ish) tracker!

Yes, I have seen those, but not sure I like the shape. I might just run without lights, it’s legal here in the UK as long as you only ride the bike in reasonable daylight. Our laws are strange - if you have a dipped beam fitted you must also have a main, and vice versa, but you can also just opt...

    Honda FT500(ish) tracker!

Interestingly enough, the forks are actually off a BMW F650GS, so will have originally had a 19" wheel in them. However I think the fork brace has been made to sit on the underside of the mount where the factory one would sit above the mount, so that's something I'll have to look into. But yeah...

    Honda FT500(ish) tracker!

Just picked up this lovely tracker/street tracker build based off an '82 FT500 Ascot after around a 12hr drive and a ferry to Northern Ireland and back! This is a bike I've known of for a while, as the owner has machined some engine pieces for my own 500 engine being used in my cafe racer...

    CB250 RS - Project "Phoenix"

Hi Neil, Sorry I have only just seen this. Life got busy again and I didn't make any further progress so been off DTT for a while. I don't know if I have the flanges but there was someone on the CB250RS owners group on facebook who was making them I think. If you still need them, I will do...

    CB250 RS - Project "Phoenix"

So whilst I'm away, I was left unsupervised a little too long and ended up with another RS. Picked up this wee beauty for the bargain price of £1100, runs and rides perfectly. I figured by buying an RS, if it ended up being junk, it would serve well for parts for the project. But I think this...

    CB250 RS - Project "Phoenix"

A fleeting trip home finally saw the wee honda dug out of its pit in the shed and back onto the ramp in the garage! I had to oil the bore and free the engine off. Unfortunately, because I had never planned the project to be mothballed for so long, I hadn't made much of an effort to seal the...

    CB250 RS - Project "Phoenix"

Holy thread revival batman. I'm back on here, and I'm ready to actually make something of this project. Life got busy after lockdown back in 2020. There's been campervan builds, breakups, new relationships, new jobs, lots of travelling, home renovations; you name it. The poor wee Honda has sat...

Rear Shock Dimensions Database! Over 1900 records!

Absolutely don't mind at all. I see this as a valuable resource to all and the more people who have access to it the better.

Rear Shock Dimensions Database! Over 1900 records!

Hi All, Throughout many projects I often find myself trawling through suspension catalogues to identify potential upgrades for my bikes from other bikes. As many of you will know it's often a painstaking exercise and one many of us wish was easier. Well now it is. Last night I spent a...

    CB250 RS - Project "Phoenix"

So following the rust repairs to the frame I decided to get the whole lot blasted next before I went any further. I decided to get the tank done at the same time as I was certain there was quite a lot of body filler in there. Thankfully no further major concerns with the frame. A few areas to...

    CB250 RS - Project "Phoenix"

Long time no update! The last few months have been pretty hectic with just about everything BUT the build, unfortunately! I have got a few updates though. I got the engine just about complete, save for fixing side cases on as there's some wiring to do, and back in the bike (I've also realised I...

    CB250 RS - Project "Phoenix"

A little more work done recently. As the UK went into COVID-19 Lockdown, I got my house move through. We just got in in time, meaning I've had a load of time at work stuck at home. However before I could start working on the bike, the garage at the new house needed serious work. It was a bare...

    CB250 RS - Project "Phoenix"

Finally, something worth updating about. So since I dropped the new piston etc at my machinist before christmas, not a lot really happened; I'm halfway through buying a house and spare time is hard to come by. However, time is marching on and with a house move coming up I needed to get the...

    CB250 RS - Project "Phoenix"

Yeah, once I realised the way it all goes back together I realised why the bugger was so tough. I had cobalt bits on it and it just wouldn't touch it. I've probably got a masonry bit somewhere but it's already at the shop now - since he's doing the case for me it was easier just to get him to do...

    CB250 RS - Project "Phoenix"

So I got the motor back out and stripped it down on Sunday afternoon. There's really not a lot to taking these things apart. I've got the cases split now to do the kick start conversion. There's some slight differences in the FT motor than the XR and some of them caused some head scratching...

    CB250 RS - Project "Phoenix"

Thanks mate. I think I've actually sussed it now though. So.... It turns out, with my natural riding position, it's comfy for the rearset arm to actually be below the existing spindle. It looks extreme, but that's where my foot was when I sat onto the bike and got myself comfy... So that...

    CB250 RS - Project "Phoenix"

So I got home from work today and there was two parcels waiting for me, so it was straight into the garage. First up, my new carb manifold and boot arrived from Dellorto. The hole centres weren't quite right, so I got the Dremel out and started boring the holes out to get the hole centres...
