83 CB550 wiring and cabling and a couple other random questions

I just broke down a 650 and removed the cables from the control switch housings first. This made it much easier to get the carb out and remove from that side when it was ready to be pulled. There is a ton of wires right in the front of the bike. Thats because the fuse box is mounted there...

    My CB650 project...

Apollo, I sent you some questions to the e mail address in your profile. Thanks for any help. One more thing - How did you go about painting those calipers the second time ? They turned out great !

    My CB650 project...

I would love to help you out Apollo but my bike is literally in pieces. I am sandblasting the engine covers to get ready for paint this weekend.

    My CB650 project...

Apollo - would you mind sharing some tips on how you did that exhaust ? I love the way it turned out. What kind of wrap/paint, etc ? Did the wrap kit come with those clamps ?

Apollo - the bike is looking awesome !!! Very nice work. I love the way the tank came out. And good choice on colors. Make sure to post a pic with the headlight installed. I am still working on mine. I hope it turns out close to as nice as yours is looking. Good work.

How i made my cafe seat

Gotcha. I will look for fleece at a fabric store or Wal Mart. Does the fleece become part of the seat or did you use it to protect from the glass resin ?

How i made my cafe seat

That turned out awesome. I am going to use this as a template for a future seat build. One question - What exactly is the "fleece" and what is it used for ? I have never seen it before. Thanks.

    My CB650 project...

I am not doing a frame up restoration at this point. I figured since the bike already runs well I would just take care of some cosmetic stuff and ride it around while the riding weather here is nice. It has been unseasonably mild here the past few days and I am itching to get this thing back on...

    My CB650 project...

Yeah for a 900 dollar bike I didnt think it looked too bad. Silver was the last of many colors. When I sanded it down I think I went through 9 coats of paint. At one point some idiot had painted the entire bike including the engine red. I am probably going to paint it a jet black with a silver...

    My CB650 project...

Here are a few pics of mine. So far I have replaced the headlight, speedometer, handlebars, and grips. I am also getting it ready to paint. This is a lot of hard work but I am having fun with it. I have a pan for the seat ready to get glassed up this weekend. Couple of questions -...

    My CB650 project...

Alright gsd.....I have the headlight installed and the new mounting brackets. I also have the new bars mocked up. I love the way they look but I am running into the same problem you had with the cable length. Please share what you did to get yours installed correctly. When you removed the return...

    My CB650 project...

I was actually going to look at an 82 Yamaha Virago on a Saturday morning that I found listed on craigslist for 1000. I called the guy on my way and he tried to pull the old switcharoo and tell me he had a guy coming on wednesday that had agreed to pay 1450 for it. He asked if I could match it...

    My CB650 project...

The bike looks much better already with the different handlebars and without that square headlight. I just bought an 84 Nighthawk 650 and have already removed all of that stuff, too. I am waiting on the new handlebars, grips, headlight, and mounts to arrive. I also am shedding that terrible...
