‘79 Kz650B - Semi-Trackbike Build

That is a trick little engine stand. I need to find one of those.

It’s from K&L. I’ve had it for 20+ years and only used it a couple times. They’re NOT inexpensive at around $325-350. If I didn’t have this one already, I could probably make something similar to it for $50-75.

Cool, yeah that's definitely more than I'd want to spend, but I do have a ton of square tubing sitting around and a new to me lathe to practice on....so that may be a project for this winter. I've got at least 2 engines to build. Thanks for the link.

Not much has happened. I finished cleaning up the frame where I de-tabbed it earlier and decided to remove the centerstand mounts while I could flip the bare frame around easier.

Then I turned up a tach drive plug. It doesn’t look super fancy and took me almost 1.5hrs but $0 spent.

It seems as if 10 months have now passed and I’ve done jack squat with my 650.

I was able to find a painter so I should be dropping off the bodywork in the next week so he can start prepping it for paint. Before doing so, I needed to open the stock fuel tap hole up slightly to fit the Pingel petcock I plan on using.

Hopefully the next update will show a painted set of bodywork.

looks nice. are you going to do stripes or anything like that?

That was the plan but the painter I found is retiring very soon (this may be his last job) but he does’t really pinstripe. And the guy who custom pinstriped my helmet, couldn’t get it done until later in March.

I do eventually want a stock-ish stripe job but in some combo of silver, gun-metal gray and/or black.

The bodywork is back in my possession. Now just to refinish the frame and other brackets, etc. and final assembly should be able to start.

Either the '78 or '79 stripes would look killer on that.
