•• 1980 Honda CX500 Fighter Project ••

looks good. and keep dreaming its what brings us to this site. I like the look of that cx with the usd forks looks real clean. The only problem i can see with that is the wheels wont match. You can make the stock front wheel work but that would kinda half defeat the purpose of the frontend swap. You said that the 95 gsxr frontend was direct swap. I dont know if you have actually researched but it might be as simple as swapping the bearings and some machining. I believe ohiocaferacers.com or something like that has a chart of bearing sizes for different frontends. you would need to figure out if you can fit a bearing with the gsxrs I.D. will fit in your cx's O.D. if not then you need to take the stem out of your triples and install it into the gsxr's triples. usually the modern frontends have a stem that is so big that it is impossible to fit a bearing into the vintage steering head. Follow what im saying. Oh and get the damn thing running first. trust me. Ive been working on mine for a year and have never heard it run. good luck brother

Lol, I know I know.....

I put alot of "visions" on hold until I get her running, I have been slacking on the thread as of late but should have some nice pics up very very soon. Should be cool for all.......

So I completely rebuilt my carbs. Like every effin screw was taken apart. Linkage and all. Waiting on a few gaskets and what not but thought I'd post a teaser...

This restoration stuff takes alot longer than I thought, but god damn it's fun. I am waiting on parts to post pictars of my sexy carb rebuild. Might post a step by step, as I took hella photos to ease the reassembly process. Heres where I stand as of now tho....

Before pictures (obviously)

Didn't have much time to work on bike tonight but got some stuff done. The bike is a 30 minute drive away from my house right now in my brothers garage so its a pain in the dick to get out there all the time.

I took apart the seat and cut the seat pan for my new look.

Cut the frame for the "new" ass end, welding the seat mounts somewhere alongside a new mount for cdi/rectifier and tailights.

Still coming up with cowl ideas, the beer was going down better than ideas were coming up so I called it a night.

Still waiting on carb gaskets and o-rings for the re assembly...

I hate waiting for mail.....

Started mock up for cowl. Will most likely start the steel fabrication from my Snackables template tomorrow at work.
Thinking about extending the template on the top side about an inch and covering the last 2/3 of the seat with flat steel to give a nicer surface to work with while mounting the resin/foam/leather......

Seat fab preliminary, going to regrind with flap wheel (didn't have one at work ;)), reprime, and might do a little hint of body filler on the pin holes. Otherwise fit up went good...

Not sure how I'm going to approach the foam and leather yet, obviously the easiest way would be to cover the seat with foam and stretch the leather over the seat and rivet it underneath and around the upper section of the cowl, I would rather have the leather only top side tho so idk..... any ideas?

Doing a poly putty glaze and re-prime tonight. might wrap seat in cloth just for the "look".
Also thinking about adding a high density foam under the softer foam.

Looking good dude, I'm working on a CX myself, I'm going for more of a Ducati SPort Classic look and I already cut the shock towers off of the rear like you said you wanted to. This is my first bike as well, but I have some help from my uncle. Looking forward to updated pics.

Nice one mate, I too have started a CX 500 and am really enjoying watching yours come together.
