1970 CB350 Spring Thaw Hellride

You've been mostly-dead all day.
DTT BOTM WINNER
A longtime friend since freshman year in high school hooked me up with a 1970 CB350. He’s already done a bunch of work on it, but now it’s in my hands, so I’ll make some changes. I’ve already pulled the seat and tank. I’m really suffering with the decision whether or not to make any changes to the rear of the freshly painted frame. Regardless, here we are at day one:

Nice bike and bug IRK. We have a 72 rat rod bug, a 68 cal look and a 70 shorty bay window bus. Thought I had a bus pic but cant find it right now. Air cooled forever!

I miss the Bugs. I drag raced a ‘65 in high school (the ‘80s) with a 2275 Bernie Bergmann engine. At that time, we also had a stock ‘61, and a ‘66 wide eye Baja Bug. My sis just got a Karmann Ghia for Xmas from my bro-in-law. I’ll have another soon. My neighbor on the next block has a ‘67 Baja with an 1835 and Pro Street transmission that’s been sitting for a good 10 years. He’s been trying to get me to buy it, but he wants too much. It’s like a stare contest to see who flinches first.

Anyone that knows me knows I have to cut something. I notched the top frame and bunged the downtube to fit chunks of CB550 subframe. We will gusset the corner, which will fill the gap around the side cover. This arrangement allows me an extra inch of rear travel or a drop of the same, depending on shock length.

Bye all means, flinch! I have been wanting to turbo my rat bug for years now. I have a GT2560S, A To4b, one off a John Deere excavator, and a few others lying about playing the same game. Watching me from the shelf every time I am in the shop, just staring me down with their cold eyes...
Nice Ghia!
