Hello all,
I'm trying to mount Mikuni VM20 carbs to my '70 Honda CL175. I want to keep the frame stock, and right now it would be in the way. The first photo shows how the stock manifold won't bolt up to the Mikuni. The second photo shows it mock-mounted up- there's not quite enough clearance, I won't be able to mount an air filter to it, and there needs to be some "splay" to clear the frame (and allow that main jet holding bolt to be useable). The last photo shows the dimensional differences between the stock carb and the VM20.
I would love to do something like what Big Rich did here: http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=11770.345
Alas, I have no machining/welding skills. I live in San Diego area and I'm having trouble finding anyone who's willing to modify an extra set of intakes that I have, or fabricate anything.
Do you guys have any suggestions for something I can purchase that is bolt-on that I don't know about? Or a machinist recommendation? I have seen people basically cut intakes in half, weld shut and re-drill holes on the flat mating surface of the manifold, and re-attach those halves using rubber hose/clamps. This gives them the ability to splay and flex as needed to clear the frame, though I don't think I'm even capable of doing that myself.
Any ideas would be most appreciated! Thanks in advance!
